El Zarape — Restaurant in Garden City

4.0, more like a 4.NO yes brutally honest. I really don't understand how this restaurant has survived so many years. Maybe the salsa sales? Which in my opinion is a stretch because it's mediocre at best. If I wanted left overs I could have had better at home. Chef mic was out in force. My wife's plate came out half cold half screaming hot.... ON A CAFETERIA PLATE! Which we could have excused if it wasn't reheated regurgitated trash from two days before. The restaurant was not busy at all on a Saturday night and it took forever to get everything. The charge of 3.50 for more chips is ridiculous and it took quite a while to get out our food. The chips were also pretty bad. My brother was waiting for a water refill forever. I got the wrong order but I ate it anyway and didn't mentioned anything cause we were in a hurry. The sides of rice were some of the smallest portions I've ever seen - like three bites worth. Food was mediocre. Stopped in today (2/21/25 around 2030ish) just to grab some salsa which they sell by the jar. I paid by card and the hostess hit the 25% tip button for a 6 dollar tip ($5 and change) and handed me the machine to sign. Just to put 2 jars in a brown paper bag and hand them to me. And, then had a scowl and an attitude when she saw me change it. I was going to tip to begin with and still left a tip (for all of you tip police). But, doing that to try and scam a customer leaves a sour taste in my mouth for one of my favorite places in Garden City. I should of brought it up...
