Best little hole-in-the-wall burger joint you’ll ever find! Just a few miles off of the interstate, in the tiny town of Garland. The chef here is the burger whisperer, seriously! Ok, so every time we head over the mountain, from IF to UT, (annnd on the way back, too!) we stop here for burgers. And I mean EVERY TIME. What’s so great about the Golden Spike? Well, everything! The folks who run this seriously understand burgers, and burger cravings! The flavors are on point, the huge servings are legendary, the quality is top notch, and the folks behind the counter are as kind and professional as they come! We have ordered almost everything on the menu at one point or another, and there isn’t anything that doesn’t taste delicious and leave you coming back for more. Here’s the truth ~ it’s a darn good thing this little burger joint is in Garland, and not closer to home, or we’d have an addiction issue, lol! If you’re going to visit, you’ll want to be a bit strategic about it, and come either before or after the school kids lunch rush ~ however, if you do get caught up at the same time, the staff is very professional, timely, and although they are going really fast, they don’t mess up the orders, nor does the quality suffer. Yup, they are that good!! You’ll just have to wait in line a little longer 😉 Ok, so you’re thinking….cmon….there has to be SOME downside to this little joint, right? Ok, ok, there is ONE ~ there aren’t very many tables. However, don’t let this detract at all, even if you have to eat it from your car or take it to a nearby park, it’s TOTALLY worth your visit. One visit, and you’ll find yourself making excuses to come partake of the perfect crispy fries, the mouthwatering mushroom burger (I can’t even describe how good this is, you just need it, ok?), the ginormous pastrami burger….. yah ok, everything on the menu. It’s not a big menu, but the chef has perfected everything on it, and you can’t go wrong, no matter what you order. This guy is the burger whisperer, my friends just try it go out of your way and do it ~ you can thank...
Read moreOk, so I've read the negative reviews and all I have to say about that is STOP IT!! This is one of America's quintessential mom & pop greasy spoons. 1st, yes, I only have them 3 stars for atmosphere cuz there really isn't any, but that's not what you come to a place like Golden Spike Burgers for. You always hear people say, "ooooo yah, I wanna find an off the beaten path mom & pop hole in the wall dive restaurant... that's where you find the best food." Well, that's exactly what you've got here, folks, but some of you still want to complain that, aesthetically, it's not up to snuff. News flash... IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE! If that's what you're looking for, try Mickey D's... if your one of those who've clearly missed the whole point of this place, McD's is probably more your speed anyway.
Now to the food... and it is marvelous! I had the pastrami sandwich, and the name alone just doesn't do it justice. Really, it's closer to a Cuban. It's a hot sandwich, made with delectable, lean pastrami, cheese, and mustard, served on a toasted hoagie bun. And the fries!! OMG, the fries!! Hands down, the absolute BEST fries I've had in about 45 years. I cannot put into words how blissful (yes, that's right, blissful) these fries are.
My wife had the chicken burrito (no surprise to those of you who may have read any of my other reviews). When I asked her how her lunch was, she offered only 1 word, "amazing!" Afterward, she told me that the green sauce they served over the burrito was the best shed ever had. Pretty high praise coming from her.
We live nearly 100 miles from Golden Spike Burgers, and it is, without question, worth the drive. We'll definitely make the trip to this wonderful mom & pop, greasy spoon,...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped here to eat lunch on our final leg of our vacation. We ordered a grilled ham and cheese ($4.75 on the menu) and upgraded to the combo meal ($5.50 is stated at the bottom of the menu). I told the cashier we wanted to grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and we would like to upgrade them to the meal ($5.50 + $5.50 =$11.00). While I was telling my husband what I wanted to drink, the cashier rang up our order and I paid her. I then went to the restroom and when I came back to the table our meal was already there and that was when I looked at the receipt. The cashier rang up 2 meals at $11.00 for a total of $22.00 + tax. Seeing that I got over charged I went back up to the counter and someone else came to help me. I said that had been over charged. She told me that I wasn’t because the meal was the sandwich price plus the $5.50 ($4.75 + $5.50 =$10.25) So depending on how you interpret the bottom line of the menu (see the picture) we were overcharged $1.50 or $11.00. I myself thinks that it was $11.00 based on how the cashier rang up...
