If you are in the Huntington State Park, and in the mood for ice cream, Spoonbill's Ice Cream Shop is your ticket. Conveniently located near the main parking area in the the Huntington State Park across the lot from the Atalya Castle. For those wanting to fulfill that sweet tooth craving, it will fit the bill. However do note that the ice cream is not as rich or creamy as at many other places such as Stella's Homemade Ice Cream in Surfside Beach, SC, Braum's ice cream (from Texas) or Tillamook ice cream (from Oregon) both of the latter we are spoiled with. It's more like an ice milk. That being said, the staff are very nice, they have a gluten-free guide to their various flavors, and the price is right for the setting. Huntington Beach State Park has the scoop on Spoonbill’s Ice Cream. Located on the grounds of the state park offering a dozen varieties of Wholly Cow ice cream, Icee and Coke products. Wholly Cow Ice Cream is sourced from Charleston, South Carolina and known for its high-quality, handcrafted, French custard-style ice cream. Named after the Roseate Spoonbill, a pink bird who traditionally summered in the park and along the South Carolina coast. Simple setup offers a walk thru order counter and bench seating outside on the deck. My choice was a double scoop of the Charleston Sea Turtle in a waffle cone. A creamy salted caramel ice cream, caramel ribbon and mini turtle milk chocolate caramel candies. Ingredients were plentiful and worked smoothly together for a satisfying finish and taste. Sadly, we didn’t discover Spoonbill’s Ice Cream Shop until our last day of camping at Huntington Beach State Park! May need a few more signs promoting it, because the ice cream is amazing!
