Country Kitchen is not as good as it used to be. We drove an hour and a half just to have lunch here; specifically for the great fried chicken we’d had there previously. We checked the website to make sure they were open and if there were any changes due to the pandemic. The website stated they were open with a limited menu. We reviewed the limited lunch and dinner menu posted on their website and it had fried chicken on the menu as well as mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese, all items our family were looking forward to. When we arrived we were seated and given 2 copies of the menu (there were three people in our party). This was a sign of how things would go. The menu did not have any of the items that we specifically checked the menu before coming. No fried chicken, mashed potatoes or Mac and cheese. Service was painfully slow. We sat for 20 minutes with empty glasses, requested 3 times for drink refills, and it wasn’t until I walked to the waitress stand and asked for the tea pitcher so I could fill our drinks before they came to refill. It took 45 minutes to get the food. The food was OK, the fried foods were overcooked, especially the hush puppies. The hamburger bun was stale and hard. We had to ask three times for the biscuits and cornbread. We got it after our food came after we’d requested the bread multiple times. Our waitress disappeared after we got our food. Long after we had finished our meal we had to request another waitress to see if she could get our bill and that waitress is the one that brought our bill and we cashed out with. We were not the only ones having problems. The manager was requested from another table while we were there and others were complaining about slow and lack of service. This experience is not what I would expect from a Callaway Garden’s property. I hope they can get the kinks worked out and bring back the fried chicken, but I doubt we’ll go out of our way to...

We visited the restaurant on Sunday, November 22nd, party of 4 plus a baby. The service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress clearly had an attitude and was simply ignoring us. The biscuits were brought only after I asked for them. I ordered pot roast because I've had it before many many times, and it was very delicious in the past. When our food arrived, the pot roast looked horrible, just a piece of dry beef on top of rice with three tiny baby carrots. When I was able to catch our waitress, I asked where the gravy, and her response was "You didn't ask for gravy". I told her that she never even asked me about gravy. I guess I was of the opinion that gravy is an essential part of the pot roast. The food in general didn't taste good at all, very overpriced for what you get. I don't know what happened to this restaurant, maybe they are under new management, but the experience is absolutely horrible. The waitress never approached us anymore after she brought me gravy. We had to flag her down to ask her to add more water. She brought the jar with water and poured it into a glass of one person and never asked the others if they wanted any more water. I was shocked witnessing all this because Country Kitchen Restaurant has always been a gem of Harris County. It was a place where people proudly brought their guests from other states. And now it's nothing but a...

My family has stopped here to eat here every time we have visited Callaway Gardens for the last few decades. The food is always great, and the store has cute items for sale and lots of sweet treats. It’s a pretty view. But I was disheartened by the wait staff when we went for Christmas Eve lunch. The food was fine, but a member of our party was going through chemotherapy and can NOT have cold drinks. They asked for sweet tea without ice and the waitress said okay. When it came out, there was ice. No worries - easy mistake. So I simply asked if we could, again, have a sweet tea with no ice. Mind you, it was not busy. This was at 1:30pm on 12/24/22. Our server was working 3 4-top tables. She rolled her eyes at my request and never brought it. Even when our food came, it didn’t seem to jog her memory. I realize it sucks working Christmas Eve and don’t want to shame/name her. But it’s disappointing that someone going through chemo can’t get tea without ice. No customer should have to “prove” that they need an accommodation (as simple as “no ice, please”). Wait staff should be briefed on things like this. Like I said, we love Callaway and my family goes almost every year. But this was so, so...

I recently dined at the Calloway Gardens Country Kitchen and was overall pleased with the experience. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was flavorful and well-prepared, making for a satisfying meal. The service was just as impressive; the staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. One of the standout features of this restaurant is the breathtaking view. Whether you're there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the scenery adds a special ambiance that really enhances the overall experience. The location is ideal, especially if you’re visiting Calloway Gardens or FDR State Park. It’s the perfect spot to grab a bite without venturing far from these attractions. However, I did notice that the floors were a bit sticky, which was a slight drawback in an otherwise great experience. It’s a minor issue, but one that could be easily addressed to improve the overall cleanliness and comfort of the restaurant. Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Calloway Gardens Country Kitchen for its great food, wonderful service, and amazing views. Just a little more attention to the floors, and it would be perfect!

Sunset view & souvenir shop were ok. Menu was a bit disappointing & boring, but the food tasted good. Our table was so rocky, no amount of levelers worked. The staff seemed understaffed & very busy. Seemed put out or overburdened to provide even the basics like, silverware, condiments, etc. They are supposedly known for their muscodine grape jam served with their biscuits. We got the biscuits, but no butter or jam for quite some time. Had to ask for them & silverware when the meals arrived. Not impressed. We had to be very careful while eating to not spill drinks. Maybe through age, the floor next to the overhang windows for the sunset canyon view may have warped.(?) Don't know, but staff should test sitting at these tables before seating customers. In my opinion, too many tables filled each area. Felt crowded. The place has been there so long according to the locals. However, with my experience, I wondered if they are taking business for granted and living on past reputation. I recommend management review customer service & facility maintenance/upgrade/repairs & menu.

First time here. Went around 1130, very busy but got a table immediately. Had pot pie, catfish plate and 2 waters..$38. Waiter was inattentive but all the staff minus the lady at the very front in the store, looked like they rather be anywhere else but there. Food was crackle barrel like. Catfish and hush puppies were the only hot and decently tasting thing. Catfish was not over breaded but could use more seasoning, actually all the food needs more seasoning. In no way, shape or form was that nearly the world's famous pot pie. Very bland and tastes premade, clearly as u can see the crust top comes right off. We didn't ever get our bread brought out to the table either. Got one coconut cream truffle on the way out...that was delicious! One and done is good for me!
