I moved to Hampton 15 minutes away from this restaurant just 18 months ago and didn't realize it even existed. I'm so glad I found it. My first visit was this past weekend. Although I don't eat yet inside a restaurant because of my concerns with covid at my age and health challenges I walked inside and was so impressed. I'm a retired realtor so I was definitely looking at it from a professional standpoint. The Elegance in class is what caught my attention. Therefore when I do decide to sit and eat I will definitely be doing so at this restaurant. Next, I wasn't very hungry and I wanted to test out the food as I always do when it's a new restaurant. Therefore I just ordered the rib tips. I'm very funny about who's ribs just keeping it real. That's due to the fact that my precious father and my late husband both who are in heaven now were barbecue ribs connoisseurs. I have never taste any ribs equal to or even better than theirs until now. It was exquisite. In fact my late husband and I owned a barbecue rib and Wings Spot inside of a gas station down in Covington Georgia several years ago with people standing outside trying to get in to get the food. That is what this reminded me of when I saw the constant flow of people coming to place their orders. The gentleman that served me happened to be CJ and only because I asked him what his name was and he was very kind and patient with me. Everybody displayed excellent interpersonal skills and great customer relations. I'm definitely going to be an ongoing supportive customer and will spread the word as much as I can. Thank you again! Peace and blessings always😍 Sincerely, Mrs Dana, a senior citizen disabled Widow who knows good food when...

Full disclosure, I am a skeptic of any place that sells bbq. I smoke my own meat. i'm almost fed up with restaurants in general. But I love supporting small businesses. I noticed this place a few times when I got my son's haircut. So one day we came in.

Simply amazing. First of all the restaurant looks excellent, modern, clean, inviting. The bathrooms were pristine. It's actually a place I would consider bringing my wife for a date.

Now, the food. My goodness. The dressing gave me everything I wanted in life. I have never had dressing like this at a restaurant... Ever.

I had ribs that were tender, falling off the bone, but not dry and it had a nice smokey flavor to it. I don't care how it was cooked, as long as it tastes good. I'm not a smoking elitist.

Now the true tell of a place is my son. He is 5 years old, extremely picky eater. He never eats soul food. But he had smothered pork chops, macaroni and cheese, rice, cornbread. And he crushed it.

Y'all, if you don't know.....THIS PLACE IS FIRE! Best of all, the cost. I could have easily paid 25 bucks for three ribs and two sides at other restaurants. But that's not the case here. I feel fortunate, because I'm certain the prices will go up once people find out and start making the trek into locust Grove off 155 to this fantastic...

My wife stumbled across this place online searching for soul food restaurants. We went to check it all out and was surprised to find out that they had been there since April of 2022. I didn’t get anything but my wife ordered Turkey wings w/ rice and gravy, Mac and cheese and collard greens.. My wife started eating her food in the parking lot (BIG HIT) I tried the turkey wings they were good but a little dry but everything else was good. I tried the peach cobbler (not a fan) tasted more like peach pie instead of cobbler. But we went back the next day (TODAY) and we both ordered the fried chicken wings, collard greens, Mac and cheese and I ordered a side of potato salad!! The chicken wings are cooked to order and the meals were delicious!! It was so good we recommend the restaurant to my parents and they went there after church. I gave the restaurant 4 out of 5 stars simply because we were told that they had ran out of sweet potato soufflĂ© and collard greens and they had only been open for 2 hours. But I’m sure we will be going back to try more dishes!! I wish I would have posted pics but we dug into the plates so fastđŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł...

First time visiting CJ & Kids. The customer service was good. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. I’m from up north so this review may be a bit bias with comparison to Soul Food in Harlem vs the soul food that I had from CJ’s. The Mac and cheese was okay, collard greens were a bit salty
to me. My husband seemed to like the ribs but i think I expected them to be a bit bigger. Also, I was wondering why there was no bbq sauce but I understand that everyone doesn’t use bbq sauce just dry rub. The catfish nuggets were oily. I was definitely expecting some sort of gravy on my oxtails. They were decent but I think I was expecting some sort of razzle dazzle for the cost. The sweet potato soufflĂ© was good according to my husband. The cabbage was average. The stuffing aka dressing was a hard no for me. There was something off about the taste. The only thing that I wish they made was potato salad. I did like the cornbread and apple cobbler. Maybe I’ll try it again at some point but from first impressions I wasn’t super impressed
again I’m used to up north soul food.
