Lived in the area for 4 years now and are just about to move out of state, we just now went to try this place out and wow! We are really kicking ourselves for not trying it sooner. We compared this place to our experiences at restaurants in downtown Savannah with the River view, and Fish Tales, by far, wins. Why? Top notch seafood dishes, not just fried food (I thought this place was only going to have fried), that are not only delicious but reasonably priced. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Bowl, the Mahi Dinner Plate, Kid’s Menu Fish Sticks, an order of Fried Okra, 2 tap beers, and the season special Irish Cream Cheesecake. It was about $70-$80. For us as a couple and toddler, going out to eat somewhere decent is going to cost $70 not including an appetizer and dessert. This was an absolute treat at an affordable price (tip your servers). The food rating goes like this: Ahi Tuna Bowl: 10! The tuna steak was cooked perfectly, not at all over done and chewy. It’s cooked the way it should be with a nice rare middle. The rice was coconutty and sweet. And with that sauce!? Garlic Aaoli, chef’s kiss. Mahi Dinner: 10!!! The Mahi was buttery sweet like crab, cooked perfectly. And again, that sauce. I don’t know what sauce was on this one, my husband got this dish and blessed me with a couple bites. THE Hushpuppies: 10!!!!! Came as a side with my husband’s and daughter’s dish. My husband’s order came with a cinnamon butter, not my daughter’s (YES, thank you! My toddler doesn’t need that). Those hush puppies are indeed “famous,” confirmed by me. My toddler tore hers up too. Kid’s Fish Sticks: Not just generic “sticks,” these were actual little fish fillets fried. A good amount too. Toddler approved. Fried Okra: 10! Crispy and hot, not overly greasy at all which was a nice surprise. The ranch was top tier too. Idk if they have a designated sauce guy but give him a raise. Irish Cream Cheesecake: 10x10! I don’t even want to talk about how delicious this cheesecake was.
Our waiter was so considering of our daughter too. Every encounter we had he considered her, even asked her questions. It was very charming. I asked him for a food recommendation as well, and he helped me decide. Great recommendation too.
The view was great, and that is coming from a day that was rainy and windy. We’ll be trying again on a nicer day, for better views and I’ll be needing to try the...
Read moreOur server was pretty horrible. He never refilled our drinks, he barely came by to check on us.
Ordered the fish of the day, she-crab soup, kids popcorn shrimp, fish sandwich, and seafood dip.
Seafood dip was good, though very greasy and a bit salty. I still enjoyed it for the most part.
The fish of the day was Red Drum, which I love, and the fish was decent. Ordered it grilled and they had a pan sauce drizzled on it. I would have preferred that left off, but it wasn't bad. The carrot & sweet potato medley that came with it we're okay but a little undercooked. The sweet potatoes and carrots were crunchy, I didn't really enjoy that. The other side, macaroni and cheese, was awful. It was cold and flavorless. It tasted more like macaroni and milk. When the server finally came back, I asked if I could exchange it for a different side, and opted for the cheese grits. They were just as disappointing as the Mac and cheese.
The she-crab soup was good but pricey for what it was.
The kids popcorn shrimp was okay, not anything amazing. My son ordered hush puppies, but they did not live up to the hype. They literally tasted like any other restaurant style hush puppy. We have definitely had better elsewhere. My son didn't like them at all, he said they were too greasy.
The fish sandwich was blah. We eat a lot of seafood and a lot of po' boys / fish sandwiches, and this one was not very good. The fries that came with, were not great either.
I was hoping the reviews were accurate, but it seemed that the ones who enjoyed their food the most were "a few drinks in" before the meal came.
It's the only restaurant near Ft. McAllister, but we will have to go out of our way to get better seafood next time.

Read more*Update. Went earlier this week, definitely a Significant Improvement. The best service I've had since the very first time I went there more than three years ago. Great food -Great service. A+
Been there a few times lately and the customer service is in DECLINE. Last night, waited for over an hour for outdoor seating while eyeing 6+ vacant tables the entire time. Was told the wait would be 45 minutes, and after an hour followed up and the wait would be another 50 minutes! After realizing they were sitting groups that arrived after us (they don't do reservations by the way) I and other customers expressed their concerns as well with the seating folly. It was clearly aparent... the organization of seating was in severe disarray and there WAS NOT A PRESENCE OF MANAGEMENT at all as the manager was working behind the outdoor bar and never left once. Alcohol sales appeared to be the priority for the night...
The couple of hostess I've interacted with the last 3 times I've been there lack restaurant maturity, display a lack of training, and are oblivious to customer concerns to the problems that surround them. It is my assumption the business survives because of the regulars who consume alcohol, but has a ton more potential (location) as it could use some attention to detail from the owner on the restaurant side .
*Bring bug spray for the outdoor venue as the knats are horrible. That is unless fishtales decides to INVEST in screening......
