Read moreThis is a really good spot in an area w/o a lot of options. You should eat here! Trust me. My family and I were heading from Great Wolf Lodge to the nearby Wild Animal Safari and wanted something outside of the over-priced fare at Great Wolf that wasn't fast food. I came across Granger's after a brief online search. If you're the type that's apprehensive about about a restaurant attached to a gas station (I am not), don't be. You'll walk inside to an extremely clean, well-kept classic Southern BBQ and burger joint. There were five of us and collectively we had the fried pickles, pulled pork sandwiches, chili slaw dog, fried okra, baked beans, fries...I think that covers it. Everything was great! It was Alabama style mustard based BBQ pork and was very good. Chili-slaw dog was maybe the best I've had - great slaw and chili, hot dog cooked perfect - I dunno...it was awesome. Okra was excellent as were the other sides. Service - beyond good. Quintessential family restaurant. Super nice lady said hello (from behind the counter) as soon as we came in. Another lady and gentleman brought the good to our table. After giving us time to eat the gentleman came back out to ask how everything was, where we were from, and to thank us for coming in. We went by during off-busy hours so he might not always have time to do so, so please don't knock this place if he doesn't come out when you visit. Genuine as could be and thanked us when he came over as well as on the way out the door. This is a good spot y'all. And, oh yeah, prices are great. Less than/equal to fast food. And WAY better....
Read moreMy husband and I came from Augusta to spend a day at Callaway Gardens for my birthday. "Choose us some place to eat" he told me. I perused places and reviews and food photos. "Granger's. We're going to Granger's" I said. From moment one it delighted our senses. The food, the atmosphere, the music, the lady who took our order, the little boy who told us to leave a review on Google if we liked our food....it was all perfect! My husband ordered the barbecued pork sandwich combo. I ordered rib tips, fried okra, and cole slaw. Wow. Just wow. We consider ourselves foodies, but this was truly some of the best food we have ever eaten in a restaurant. The meat was outstanding, but I really believe the okra was the best I have ever had in my life. The cole slaw had such pleasing texture and the dressing was so good, I mourned when I had finished it. I have never before spent a moment of my life mourning over cole slaw. My husband said his fries were incredible, hot and crisp outside and soft inside, and it was all seasoned so well. We enjoyed our conversation with the lady of the place, telling her how much we loved our food. "It's my husband," she said, "He does all the cooking, and develops all the recipes. He lies awake late into the night coming up with new recipes." I believe it. These are the things of which dreams are made, y'all. ~Rhonda...
