Max's Lakeside — Restaurant in Georgia

Made a second visit yesterday 8/24! Just as excellent as our last visit!

My boyfriend and I were exploring Tallulah Gorge for the day and when we were finished we were starving. I told him I’d search Google maps for restaurants nearby when i stumbled upon Max’s Lakeside as the 2nd restaurant that popped up in the list and I’m SO glad I did!!

The place is absolutely a hidden gem up a twisty turny road by Lake Rabun. When you pull into the parking lot behind the restaurant, you’ll discover the cutest outdoor bar I’ve ever seen with seats that are made of swings!

We thought about sitting at the bar to eat, but I decided I really wanted a bit of air-conditioning after a very warm day hiking around so we went inside the dining room.

I’m so glad we did it because we met the brand new server, Amber who was absolutely awesome! Super personable, sweet, and definitely on the ball with everything, including a constant flow of refills on drinks for my guy without ever having to ask.

We chose the Burrata appetizer and it was SO good! The pesto sauce on the plate was seriously delicious. I scooped up every last bit. The bread sticks were delicious as well. I wish I took a pic to share.

For dinner I got the shrimp scampi and my love got the meatball sub with a side salad. Both were delicious. We debated getting a pizza because they looked excellent and they had a great variety.

For desert we got the Italian donuts which were puffed pizza dough with a cinnamon sugar that came with caramel and chocolate to dip and they were nice and hot and so delicious. It came with at least 8 on the plate so plenty to take home.

When we’re back up exploring in the area I know we’ll be back. We’ve definitely added Max’s to our favorites.

Parking is horrible. Food was hot and fresh and somewhat quick but void of flavor. What was flavorful wasn’t a good flavor. Service was great. I left a tip for that sole reason. We had spaghetti and meatballs, chicken wings, and Caesar salad. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread that came with the salad. When I went to leave I had to crawl through my passenger door to the drivers side because someone had parked that close. I asked the staff to contact the owner in hopes that they would move so I could leave. After about 15 minutes I contorted myself across my vehicle at 44 years old. I would say “next time” I will call the police and tell them to bring a tow truck but there won’t be a next time. This is how vehicles get tore up. The little space they do have to expand parking is being used to build a RV lean to AirBNB. Customers are purposely routed into the roadway to allow for one golf cart parking space along the route to...

I want to give four stars but the only reason I’m not is because I don’t want to lower their score as they are a good business. We ordered one of their pizzas based only off the photo that was used in their menu and what we got looked nothing like it. It feels a bit misleading to me. I think they need photos that more closely represent their product or correct the kitchen to provide the quality product they want. We pain for chicken on top as an additional topping and literally got one piece per slice. Some didn’t even have chicken. Was disappointed by that. I have gone multiple times there and will continue to go but I was pretty saddened by how different the actual product is compared to what...
