My family and I went to Riverbend last night and unfortunately had an unpleasant experience. I arrived before 5:00 and was in line waiting for the restaurant to open. Upon entering behind about 25 people I came to realize that they had reservations. I said to the lady behind the counter that I was unaware you needed a reservation if you arrived before the doors open. She responded with a laugh and a rude comment about โwell you certainly doโ..haha! She took our name and said she would call our name when the 5:00 reservations were seated. We sat down in the waiting area at 5:00 ๐ I overheard this same lady being rude to the next customer in tone and attitude. The area was standing room only by 5:30 and two parties had been called, a 5:15 and a 5:30. My family of three was called at 5:55. The waitress was fine, and the food was okay. The rudeness we encountered affected our evening! I live about the same distance from Riverbend and Country Kitchen...I will be going to Lamar County in the future. This policy needs to be clearly stated on your website...IF YOU ARRIVE BEFORE THE DOORS OPEN YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE A RESERVATION OR BE TREATED RUDELY AND WAIT POSSIBLY AN HOUR TO BE SEATED! I have been coming to Riverbend for 40 years, making a reservation always, but never came early before you opened. Other people waiting were also surprised at this policy who walked in at 5:00. Bad for your...
ย ย ย Read moreI ate ate this restaurant last evening. I have to say it was the worst meal ever had. I ordered the 2 piece whole catfish dinner. It was all bones. It was as if the fillets was cut off for the fillet dinners while the bones were fried and call whole catfish. Shameful! In fact, a woman across from me has the fillet dinner. The fillet she had came off the bones in my plate. The onion rings were very greasy and the sweet tea was water. so was the pitcher of "sweet tea" left on the table for refills. I ordered the cheese cake with a raspberry sauce and it tasted like what ever they had in the fridge. I was so nauseated and sick on the way home. I don't what part or all of that dinner made me sick. I also witnessed a waitress come from the kitchen with two plates she coughed on and served to the table next to me. She pretty much walked around with her mouth open the whole time serving food. That was my first and last experience there. I gave a rating of 2 stars because our waitress was very pleasant. I would actually...
ย ย ย Read moreRiverbend is an institution in Thomaston. You go for the fish, whole or filete. They do have shrimp, oysters and steak etc but the point is the fish. There are basic side choices; onion rings, fries, baked potato, salad aor cole slaw. Cole slaw, fresh sliced onion, pickles, and tarter sauce are delivered in massive quantities to the table and replaced through the meal.
We had a large family gathering. They had a very good plan for serving us. Every drink order hit the table first. Then every cold side. When the hot food left the kitchen it came just as fast as they could carry it. We had 40 people and everyone had their food piping hot and fresh in 5 minutes from the time they began serving it. Portions are large. Everything is fried.
Things to know,- it is NOT fancy. This is a fish house. The back room for large grouos is poorly lit but the regular dining room is well lit. ( It matters when you get a little older ) The only items on the menu suitable for a vegetarian are salad, baked potato amd cole slaw...
