It was our first, and last, trip to Big Canoe especially The Clubhouse at Lake Sconti restaurant. We had dinner reservations the Saturday before July 4th.
One would think for a busy holiday and the only restaurant on the premises, everything would be squared away and top notch. It wasnât: there were very few servers who were run ragged trying to take care of the tables they had; empty tables they couldnât sit due to lack of staff; the manager on duty âdanced aroundâ seeming not to have a care in the world, and never visited one table that we saw; our $38 filet was well over cooked and sides very mediocre as it seemed all of the plates were sitting under a heat lamp while we were waiting and waiting for our food.
After our overwhelmed server took my steak back because I couldnât eat the overcooked piece of meat, he (most gratefully) got the manager to take it off of our bill yet she never made her way over to our table even though she stayed in full view most of our dining time.
Not to mention, the tables around us that were able to be seated, weâre also visibly frustrated at the lack of service or attention to the wait. Very sad experience for us to say the...
Read moreThis place has so much potential but itâs being ran by a bunch of ole fuddy duddyâs. It opens late (would be great to have a breakfast option), it closes early (9 pm...that was my bedtime when I was in middle school), they have a limited sub par and very overly priced menu, not many options for drinks, they tend to run out of things very easily (spinach on a Friday night?...going into a weekend?!...who placed that food order because that was a fail), the set up looks more like an out dated Hilton express, there was NO live band last night (Friday)..if you wanted to really bring people in youâd have live entertainment both Friday and Saturday along with smaller food items available for order like wings, fries, pizzas. It just seems like a ton of lost opportunity for this hidden possible Gem but you have a community that is largely over the age of 60 and they just soon this place be run like a glorified nursing home than the possible money maker it could be while keeping the upper class feel and preserving the nature that surrounds the community if it was managed and...
Read moreMy wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the black bear pub for the first time this week, during our visit to Big Canoe. We were very pleasantly surprised by the comfortable, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. The service was first rate. Our server, Chase did an excellent job making sure we were well taken care of, even going so far as to brew us a fresh pot of coffee without us requesting one. :) We agreed that the sweet potato fries were the best we had ever tasted-perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and piping hot. My shrimp and grits was very satisfying, and my wife greatly enjoyed her salad. We highly recommend the black bear pub to anyone looking for good food and...
