Let me start by saying I have never felt the need to leave a negative review on a restaurant. However, after our experience I feel this is completely necessary.
We went to The Ridge for the first time last night as a family for a birthday celebration. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm, 30 minutes after their doors opened. We were told there was a wait for our party of five, with no indication of how long the wait would be. There were multiple open tables that appeared they could accommodate our party, but we decided to wait. Numerous parties came in after us and were seated immediately. We chalked it up that maybe they had made a reservation. After waiting for almost an hour and a half, we were informed by the hostess that the only table they had available was a high top table that sat four next to the bar, but they could try to squeeze us in. Since we had been waiting for so long, we took the table.
Our server came after about 10 minutes to get our drink orders and we immediately put in an appetizer order of the crab dip. After about two minutes our drinks and appetizer came out at the same time. That should have been a red flag that the dip we had ordered was pre made and sitting under the heat lamp. The amount of grease that sat on top of the dip was disgusting, and the crostinis that were served with it were uncooked and drenched in salt. We have never sent any dish back during a meal before this. We then put in an order of the onion rings hoping for the best. Onion rings came out after our dinner order, so our server was nice enough to take those off of our bill.
We ordered a variety of dishes including steak, chicken, and shrimp. After about 20 minutes of waiting for our food, our server informed us that the kitchen had 86d some of the sides we had ordered and asked if she could sub anything. Our dishes came out sporadically shortly after. The steak was burned on the outside, under seasoned, chewy, and impossible to cut through. The breading on the chicken and shrimp was bland and barely covered up the freezer burned taste of the meat. The loaded baked potato tasted as if it had been cooked a week prior and reheated. Overall horrible quality of food that not a single one of us finished. We were then given another free appetizer of the honey rolls since the kitchen had pumped out so many appetizers at opening that now things were compiling in the expo window.
The owner then made his way around the restaurant to ask about the quality of the experience. We were so uncomfortable after reading reviews about how he previously handled complaints that we did not bring up the issues we were having. Our server brought our checks and we quickly left.
Flash forward to the day after, everyone in our party is sick to their stomach. Again, I have never been one to write a bad review, but the bizarre experience we had at The Ridge needed to be shared. No amount of reaching out from the restaurant could change our minds. This was without a doubt like an episode from Chef Gordon Ramsey’s TV show Kitchen Nightmares. The only way this restaurant appears to be staying afloat, is from their geriatric patronage. 0/10...
Read moreAfter reading the mixed reviews and driving by this restaurant dozens of times in a week (it's 3 minutes from our house) we decided to give it a try.
And candidly, it's just an okay restaurant when considering the price vs. value.
My wife and I went there at 5:15 p.m. on a Friday. We had plans in the evening and decided to get an early dinner.
The atmosphere: it has more of a bar vibe than a restaurant. Sweet Home Alabama, Rolling Stones, and other rock music played throughout our dinner. The 2 bars were full of early bird diners. We were seated in a 2 person booth that looked out the wooded back. That was nice.
We ordered 2 meals, 1 glass of wine, an appetizer, and a dessert so that we could get a good sample of the food. $124 + $30 gratuity.
They had a modest wine selection of about 6 to 8 reds and the same for whites. Most were offered by the glass or bottle.
Our Ceasars salads came out with a glazed croissant reminiscent of a chain restaurant. The salad was very fresh add flavorful. The croissant was mushy.
We ordered the baked oysters appetizer. They came served with two pieces of bread that appeared to have come from the Publix Bakery. The oysters were served very hot but had no flavor- tasteless. The bread crumbs on top would have been better served with a little more butter and some seasoning. And there was nothing to soak the bread in afterwards.
My wife ordered the maple glazed salmon with a side of charred broccoli. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the portion was big. However, the pool of maple syrup under the salmon was a bit overwhelming and very sweet.
I ordered the marinated ribeye with crumbled blue cheese. The steak temperature was cooked as I requested and it was very flavorful. I had the squash casserole as a side dish, and boy was I disappointed. It was a big square of water-logged mush with bread crumbs on top. And once again, flavorless. I doused it with a bunch of salt and pepper but thatbdidnt help and I left most of it untouched.
We tried the molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream as a dessert. This was a safe bet, as you really can't go wrong with chocolate. The desert was good.
Our server Logan was OUTSTANDING! She was friendly and attentive.
We took a chance and didn't have high expectations. I'm not sure this place warrants a return...
Read moreThe bad reviews were right. I had read several bad reviews of this joint recently, but decided to go there with family anyway. It started with waiting until they were open to try to make a reservation, only to be told to call back the next day to place the reservation with the event coordinator. I stated that I had waited to call until they were open and asked if they could just take my reservation, and was told that I could call during the day and place the reservation with the event coordinator. I called the event coordinator the next day and asked for an 8 o'clock reservation: "We have a 7, do you want 7?" No, I asked for 8. I relayed this experience to a local friend. They called and explained what had happened and proceeded to get an 8 o'clock reservation. Seriously?!?!
Then we get there and our 1st server said the beers they had were on the menu. They weren't. We asked what IPAs they had, "I'll have to go check." Finally 4 drinks were ordered. Three drinks were delivered, one was supposed to be a Moscow mule, instead of a glass of wine was delivered. Apparently the server thought they meant Moscato. When the Moscow mule was finally delivered it was served in a rocks glass, not a copper mug.
There was then a server change, thankfully, but the original server never announced a handoff, they just stopped coming by.
Finally a 5th drink was ordered, meanwhile the 4th drink had never been delivered, and was requested a 2nd time.
Food was ordered without event. The salads used to come with their signature croissant rolls with a sweet drizzle on them, today they did not. We were asked if we wanted dressing on the side, or on the salad directly. Two answered having the dressing right on it. All salads came with dressing on the side.
I ordered steak au poivre, their signature dish. This was not steak au poivre. The sauce had no sherry or peppercorns at all. This was steak with mushrooms gravy.
Every facet of this experience was horrible leading up to the dinner, and it continued while were there. Horrendous,...
