I grew up eating great Jamaican food and this was nothing like what I have ever had before. We ordered the jerk chicken and the coconut chicken. Prior to our meal we were served good salads (the highlight of the night!) And foccacia bread that tasted more like dirt than flour (go to boomtown in eveleth for the brown bread instead). The bread was served with not only butter but oil as well. You would need to dip it in both to feel like you ate anything edible. The jerk chicken was undercooked and actually leaked blood when it was cut in to. The rice was decently seasoned but the hush puppies were stone cold. The coconut chicken was all crust and raw chicken inside. I'm currently writing this after being sick in the toilet for the last hour. The sweet potato I had was microwaved. Volcanic on the inside and stone cold on the outside. We will not be coming back. Service was okay but we waited 5 minutes to be seated when it was dead and then we were finally greeted by the bartender who couldnt take a joke and seemed seriously bothered that we needed to be seated. Then again I guess I would be mad if I were in his shoes too. After all it was a Friday after 5 and there wasn't a hostess there to...

I don't even want to leave this review because then the next time I want to come, it'll be harder to get a reservation!!

Let's start with the bartender, Mikayla. She was so fun!! She offered suggestions, was willing to answer questions, joked with us and was a superb cocktail maker!! It was fun to just sit and watch her do her job. She clearly enjoys what she does and takes pride in a job well done. Her sangria was top notch. I'd buy it in bottles if I could!

Our appetizer was cheese curds with a jerk ranch. A fun twist on a Wisconsin favorite!

I had the Picanha steak and it was out of this world. It was cooked perfectly to medium. The sauce for the steak was spicy with a nice touch of garlic and heat. The potatoes were cooked to a perfect crisp with a fantastic brasa sauce. I ate every bite--I can't recall the last time my meal in a restaurant was that delicious.

My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his blackened Mahi Mahi and also joined the clean plate club!!

If you're paying $30-$50 per person, including your drinks, this is the place your looking for!! I'd happily pay this for a meal of this...

We stopped in at the whistling bird last night for the first time since it reopened. I’ve always loved the whistling bird but this experience blew me away. Behind the bar, mikala made delicious beverages for myself and my fiancé. Our server Mary was spectacular. Quick, well spoken and attentive. The true shining star was the food. They’ve gone to 100% house-made menu items. We started with the fried green tomato appetizer which was outstanding. My fiancé had the walleye and it was easily one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. I ordered a steak, off a recommendation from our server (forgot what it’s called) but WOW. We finished our meal with a rhubarb pastie with house made pistachio ice cream and no surprise, it’s was out of this world. Every bite had us mind blown with how good it was. No exaggeration. They’ve really done something special with the Whistling Bird. You can tell that chef Bryan has put his heart into the menu. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping in. It’s truly a one of a kind dining experience and you will not be...

This was our second time visiting this wonderful restaurant, with many years in between. Last time we came, it was in January 2019 during a bitterly cold winter. We were heading to Giant's Ridge to snowshoe. Coming from Hudson, WI, I had googled places to eat near there. The Whistling Bird came up. It was so appealing to enter a Caribbean themed bar and restaurant when you are feeling most despondent about the temps. Fast forward 5 years, and this time we were heading to Giant's Ridge for Oktoberfest activities. Completely different temps, low 80s, but my husband and I remembered the most welcome time we had at this place years earlier. We stopped there on the way for dinner, had an excellent meal (he had the jerk pork, and I had the jerk chicken), and enjoyed a couple fun cocktails before heading the short distance to "the ridge." The bartender even humored my husband and made him a most enjoyable Rum Old-Fashioned.

We celebrated a very special Anniversary at "The Whistling Bird" and were so amazed by the quality of food and the stellar service. Gina was an absolute pro: personable, genuinely kind and friendly, efficient and professional. Gina made our night with how wonderfully she treated us. We have not been as impressed with a server like this in a long time. We even received a complimentary raspbery layed cake plated with "Happy Anniversary" written in icing. Wow! Thank you, Gina. "The Whistling Bird" is fortunate to have you. The food was perfection. My husband had a delicious, perfectly prepared steak (He loved his meal),and I ate a lovely curry lamb over brown rice and beans. The flavors were so mouth watering. The menu is quite varied and very thoughtful. If you haven't been to this charming, festive restaurant....it will not disappoint. Congratulations! Loved it so much. We will be back, because it is worth the drive.
