Cafe Manitou — Restaurant in Glen Arbor Township

It's important to note that in over 80+ of the detailed reviews I've left, I've only given one other business a single star. This spot deserved it. We went on a Friday night and there was only one other couple there, which should have tipped us off. They sat us in the corner and there were at least 10 flies buzzing around us the entire time. Totally disgusting and unappetizing... and you know if there's that many in the dining room what must be going on in the kitchen...

Ignoring the flies as best as we could, we ordered the Seafood special which included Lobster, Clams, and Shrimp, and my wife ordered the scallops. The lobster came out and had to have been frozen for a month before being served to me. It was grey, tough as rubber, and totally flavorless. Disgusting. The shrimp were even worse. Honestly if you just went to Walmart and picked out a frozen bag and let them just thaw they would have been 10x better. I don't even know how you can mess up a shrimp that badly. The scallops were equally as tough and totally flavorless. There is no way anything in the kitchen is fresh, and I would be shocked if they were even using salt and pepper in the kitchen to season anything because it was just SO BLAND.

The kicker? Each of those dishes was over $30 and were presented as if they were lovingly crafted and fresh. They were horrible and basically inedible. What an absolute...

Do NOT plan on eating at this restaurant if you are not a guest at the Homestead. Apparently it is not open to the public. I planned my mothers 80th birthday party at this restaurant and we were turned away at the door because we were not guests at the Homestead. I Talked to three different people at the homestead to plan this party over the course of three months and no one asked if we would be guests at the Homestead at the time of the event. So after months of planning for my mother’s 80th birthday party at the restaurant they turned us away at the door. Inconsiderate, unthinkable, rude. Went there for dinner and cocktails. Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the steak and lobster boil. Andouille sausage (that was suppose to be included in the dish) was missing from the lobster boil and the steak was not well seasoned but was a very good medium rare as ordered. Cocktails were watered down and uninspiring. There were also a lot of flies buzzing around which was offputting. Service was a little slow but the waitstaff was friendly. Very limited menu.
