Whippy Dip — Restaurant in Golden Township

Our journey with the Whippy Dip began about 15 minutes before we left my grandparents cottage to go there. We decided to read some Google Reviews for this place for fun before we went. And let me tell you, we were in for a surprise. You see, the owner of this establishment likes to respond to some of the reviews that the customers leave, both good and bad. There's nothing offensive when the owner responds to the goodreviews, but the bad reviews are an entirely different story. Apparently, the owner has never heard the phrase "the customer is always right." The owner almost always defends the resteraunt against the complaints the customers give, and almost never offers any kind of apology for a bad experience without some kind of "but." The owner even does this at the expense of being rude to the customers who offer constructive criticism, even saying, and I quote, "shame on you" to one of the responses to a review. If you don't believe me, just read some of the owner's responses. Honestly, it kind of discouraged us form wanting to come and caused us to go into the experience with a bad taste in our mouths.

As far as the actual ice cream experience went, the ice cream was decent and the staff was friendly. However, the ice cream was a smaller portion with a much higher price than you can get elsewhere. Overall, I would recommend going to Country Dairy instead.

P.S. My family has always loved going to the Whippy Dip, but after tonight we have decided not to go there anymore, both because of the owner's rudeness and the high prices.

So a couple comments. I'm from the Grand Rapids area, full of ice cream shops. So the critiques are founded on different observations across multiple ice cream locations.

There are three things I'll point out on a somewhat negative basis. First, they charge for a cup of ice water. Something which I haven't run across from any of the other ice cream shops I've stopped at. Not a water bottle, a cup of water. Second, the portions are much smaller than normal. The large soft serve ice cream is more akin to a medium or small. While also costing more. Same for the other items as well. Everything seemed priced a step above and a size below. Thirdly, this is a personal pet peeve, I dislike having signs every where saying smile you're on camera. It's not a tech stop and there isn't anything you can take. For me personally, it rather detracts from the atmosphere.

Absolutely delicious ice cream super cute set up.

The kids running the window are absolutely rude. An item was missed on our order and I went to the service window to let them know. I was then informed whoever took our order did not add it to the order. Ok, no problem can we please order it then. She proceeded to argue with me that we didn’t pay for it. I told her no problem can we please order it and I will pay for it. She continued to argue that we didn’t pay for it. I again said I don’t understand why you are arguing with me can we please pay for it ice cream so my son could get his ice cream. She finally rang in the order so I could pay.

Then the girl who gave us the ice cream basically threw out of the window and...
