My family wanted to go to a vineyard in Litchfield, but I guess we drove too far because we ended up here, in Goshen. I'm glad we did.
We came on a Sunday and the place was bubbling. I hate having to navigate parking fields, where you literally have to park in the grass and hope that is the right spot, but there were multiple people directing us where to go. They were young kids directing us, but they had a lot of experience and were very friendly.
They had a live band and a food truck. At first there was no place to sit, but a nice couple let us share a picnic bench with us. I'm glad they were so friendly otherwise I would have had to sit on the ground, where there are ants. I don't like sitting next to ants.
I had to go inside to get the wine. The store was maxed out, but the staff kept it flowing by asking each person in line what they wanted prior to them reaching the counter. Very smart!
I judge a place by if they ID me. I'm balding, and my non bald spots are grey. I'm also fat and have wrinkles all over my face. If you need to ID me, then I immediately know you have no experience, but I didn't get carded, so onward with my positive experience.
Back at the picnic bench, I couldn't find my wife. The nice couple said that my wife moved to a pair of Adirondack chairs, which are much more comfortable that a picnic bench. I thanked them for their help.
There was a food truck there that put crushed Doritos as a topping. At this point I thought I was in heaven.
Every place has there problems. The only problem I had with this place was the amount signage needed to tell people not to bring their own water. The nice guys in the parking lot were warning people not to bring water. There were so many signs in the lawn that I had to crop 1/2 my pictures. I get you don't want people to bring water so you can charge them, but I think that is wrong for two reasons: 1) people will get drunk faster and possibly then drive drunk 2) this is America, and sometimes I like to walk around with my 8QT camel water pack. I should be able to do this where I go.
I took a lot of pictures of the parking lot....
Read moreThis is a beautiful vineyard tucked away in Goshen. The wine is great, with a large variety to choose from, and all of their grapes are grown right here in Connecticut. The women at the counter, Charlotte and Katelyn were wonderful and told us more about the vineyard. They grow all their own grapes on over 500 acres which is impressive considering most CT wineries import at least half of their grapes.
They offer flights of any five wines you want, but you do have to drink them at the bar, which is a shame because the outdoor area is lovely. The woman pouring our flight, Charlotte, explained each wine in detail as she served them though which was nice. I thought all the wines I tried were good but I especially loved the Blueberry Porch Wine. Their wines are on the sweeter side, but they have plenty of options. The Riesling was nice and dry—I even bought a bottle to take home. The special while we were there was wine slushies, which we didn’t try but looked amazing. As well, they had a nice assortment of beer, soda and some non-alcoholic options for those who don’t want wine.
There was food truck serving fresh pizza while we were there. It was delicious (though a bit on the expensive side). You can bring your own food (no drinks), and inside they sell snacks, pre-packaged charcuterie, and dips. There’s even a small shop area with wine-themed items.
Best of all, they’re super dog-friendly. Our small dog was allowed in the tasting room with us, and they even gave her a bandana and a treat.
Sunset Meadows is easily one of my favorite wineries I’ve been to in Connecticut and I can’t wait to...
Read moreTop notch establishment by far. The wines, the location and the people are just amazing. I've come here many times, and they always impress. First off, the wines are amazing. They offer a big variety to choose from...white wines, reds, fruit infused...the blueberry is incredible. The wine slushies are delicious and they rotate fun flavors. You can do tastings too, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. The grounds are beautiful, the grape vines make for a nice view. They have a tented area with tables and chairs during the good weather months, and also have tables and chairs on the patio area, as well as picnic tables. Lots of grassy area too to spread a blanket on. Some weekends there are food trucks, or live music, and I have seen their site post fun activities that you can go to like trivia or themed days. I have also seen people host events like bridal showers. You can bring in food or they do have light snackies to purchase as well as chocolates. Yum! The staff is wonderful. Katelyn always has a big smile on her face and is so welcoming. Charlotte is super helpful and is amazing at suggesting the perfect wines to match your needs. Julia is a doll and so friendly! Everyone makes you feel like you are visiting friends and we love coming back time...
