I don't know if it was because of how busy they were, if they're getting used to the new ovens or what, but my visit on 4/15/22 was extremely disappointing as someone that has been a fan of CJ's since they opened in Gosport.
Service: I was fine with waiting, considering the lobby was full. That wasn't an issue, but the waitress seemed to be very disjointed and all over the place telling every table "i'll be with you in a moment" every time she passed by. Also, someone please tell staff to always look before leaving the kitchen. That swinging door can and will knock someone out if you are not paying attention. Twice, the waitress left the kitchen without looking and almost took someone out with the door.
Food: I understand that non-major chain pizza is going to be at a higher price, but the quality should come with it. A near $30 XL supreme pizza should have an even blend of flavourful toppings. The mushrooms tasted like they were left uncovered and dried out. Overloaded with banana peppers (which we had asked for in place of green peppers) on top, way too many red onions on bottom and very little meat. The pepperoni and sausage felt sporadic at best, which is unfortunate because y'all use very tasteful pepperoni. We had asked for extra sauce, and it felt all of it was clumped on a few slices and not spread around enough as most of the pizza was lacking in sauce.
I fear that the honeymoon for CJ's is starting to end because the quality has been dropping over time. The addition of the taproom was welcome, but the food itself feels very complacent with pleasing the Gosport population only and has no character that makes me want to come back. I would much rather go to Ellettsville or Bloomington for pizza, as now all the Owen County options for pizza (and most of the dining in Owen County in general) seem to be in a sunken place that appeals only to a few.
Addendum: I don't know if this was a cost cutting decision or what, but the child size cups for drinks felt very insulting. I get wanting to keep the price for drinks affordable, but this is definitely...
Read moreWent in for wings and pizzas and upon arrival had no idea if they were open, even though they had been open about an hour. After getting inside it was easy to see why. They're incredibly understaffed. Only 3 maybe 4 people working. That was a sign of things to come. After finally figuring out how any of this worked and where to sit, the gal taking our orders was having issues with the mobile POS system and printers. While waiting for our food we overheard staff talking about how overwhelmed they were and understaffed they are. The gal who sat us had literally drove from clayton to work at this location, poor lady, we felt so bad for her.
The wings were good and cooked properly with crispy skin. The pizza dough was raw so instead of having them remake it we canceled the pizzas and paid for the wings and drinks as we'd been there an hour.
The layout is incredibly disjointed, confusing, and seems like it was designed by a teenager after 1 too many drinks. The place feels like a maze and there's no real system for seating or even which door to enter, there's 3 separate doors and no clearly designed layout. If you walked in one area you might not be seen by an employee because of too many walls.
It also seems like the place is too ambitious for such a small town and no market research was done on potential for employees. It's gosport Indiana, not a larger town like Plainfield. The odds of finding and keeping employees is going to be low and the concept doesn't fit the location.
The employees themselves were nice and service was better than expected considering them being shorthanded but please downsize and knockout some walls and open it up more. There's too much going on for...
Read moreDO NOT WASTE YOUR GAS, TIME OR MONEY THERE! The BIGGEST waste of money($38 for 2 sodas and pizza) When we arrived- ONLY CUSTOMERS in the place. While the server was taking our order, there were 'regulars' that came in. Now, instead of being professional and telling them she wait a second, she stops OUR order and converses with them. My sister started to ask her a question and she tells HER to wait because she had to type in all of the special requests we had( all of the peppers on 1/2 and please party cut it). Really that is special? 47 minutes our pizza finally comes out- we were standing at the register to pay for the drinks. They put the peppers in a SANDWICH BASKET INSTEAD OF BAKING THEM ON THE PIZZA. Then she proceeds to tell us they only had 4 people in the kitchen and 25 orders! REALLY? Coming from 28 years in the restaurant industry (some was pizza) hard to believe. She began getting very rude, unprofessional, and sarcastic. NOW, let me tell you- we counted AT LEAST 6 carry out orders leave while we were waiting- and there was ONLY 2 PIZZAS that left. The majority of the orders were in square containers! The pizza SUCKS-NO SAUCE, for a $35 pizza, you would expect nice toppings! NO WAY! All of the extra cheese that was supposed to be on it-WHERE IS IT? crust under cooked, DISGUSTING! please go to Casey's or the pizza place in Paragon if you want REAL PIZZA! DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY OR TIME ON THIS...
