Gourmet Express — Restaurant in Grafton

Atmosphere-3 stars- located in Grafton WV this locally owned restaurant sits off West Main Street. The restaurant has two floors with tables and a sit up counter on the first floor. Restaurant appears very clean.

Service- 4 stars- our waitress was very friendly and helpful. She was upbeat and seemed to enjoy her job.

Food- 4 stars- they serve a Variety of Fare from soups, salads, sandwiches/hoagies to pasta to steak, chicken and fish entrees. They also have family sized pasta dishes. I had the Chicken hoagie with cheese and peppers with a side of fries. Very good hoagie- cheese was melted perfectly. Only thing I would ask for next time would be to add hot peppers if that was an option. I’m a big fan of French Onion Soup and saw that this was offered so I had to try it. This wasn’t the best French Onion soup I had ever had but it was solid enough that I would get it again. We also tried the Potato soup- this was not a thick potato soup, a little watery to our liking however it was still decent. All in all very impressed with the service and food. I have eaten here before and the food was wonderful, my favorite is the beef stroganoff but tonight was very disappointing. I was craving the beef stroganoff and drove about 40min to have a nice dinner. Ordered my meal and everything was great until my stroganoff arrived. It was soup...pure runny, messy slop. It was too runny to eat with a fork so I had to Chop it up and eat it with a spoon. After a while of sauce and stroganoff puree, I asked the waitress why the stroganoff was so runny, she said that is just how it is. She offered to add more parmesan cheese to thicken it but it would have way too much salt (it already had alot). She offered to have it remade but if "that's just how it comes" how much of a difference would it have made? She offered a free dessert but I wasn't complaining for freebies, I just wanted to enjoy my meal. I paid my bill, left a nice tip and left....I doubt I will ever be back. So sad, I really loved...

Whether your looking for a great steak salad, chiabatti chicken sandwhich, pasta, ribs, steak or crab cakes, the Gourmet Express not only has you covered it will satisfy! This was my first trip to the Gourmet Expess, but it won't be my last. I had heard several people raving about this place and wanted to see what all the hype was about, now I know!! I had the chiabatti chicken sandwhich and my date had the crab cakes and both were absolutely delicious! If you leave here hungry, it's your own...
