Cindy's for me was one of those places I drove by several times that piqued my curiosity & never visited, but always wanted to try! So I decided to check them out yesterday (Sunday afternoon) with my family. Atmosphere was definitely fun & appealing. They have a bit of an old fashioned, vintage vibe of ice cream shops from long ago. Decorative & brightly colored, they have a huge grassy area filled with picnic tables & chairs, along with some shady spots, if being in the bright sun isn't your thing. They also had several play things for children to keep busy while waiting for their meals or ice cream, or to enjoy after eating. Slides, games, playground type fixtures made of wood. It was less crowded than expected. Menu was plentiful & featured hot dogs, burgers, chicken & of course milkshakes, hard & soft ice cream, etc. We went as a party of 6, we had 3 children with us (ages 14, 6 & 4) & 3 adults. Among us, some things ordered included a root beer float, black raspberry Oreo shake, coney dogs, cheeseburger & more. The food was great, no complaints whatsoever! The coney dogs are smothered in chili, cheese & topped with onions. I noticed immediately that they used very good quality dogs, all beef, not the more "artificial tasting type" often used in similar dining establishments. The shakes were delicious & thick, with homemade whipped cream (optional) that complimented them nicely. All dogs are foot long as well, so they certainly curb your appetite. Get plenty of napkins though! The only things I can think to complain about is #1-Long wait time! Luckily they did have the activities for children, but it was still tough waiting so long to get our order, it was extremely hot out, I honestly expected a bit faster service, seeing as it wasn't that busy at the moment & complaint #2-Bees everywhere! Cindy's staff/owners, if you're reading this please take note...I am allergic to bees, as is my teen daughter, there were several bees all around & on top of many of your picnic tables & chairs in the outdoor dining areas! We had trouble finding a bee free spot to sit. Please spray or use some kind of natural repellent for this issue! I'm sure several others are also allergic, and even if not, I imagine nobody wants to get stung while out enjoying your fine restaurant! We actually decided to leave because of this, before getting a chance to eat our food. Luckily, we still had an opportunity to enjoy our meals in the car, but I would sure hope you could rectify this problem, so that next time we can stay to eat. I would greatly appreciate it! Another plus, they do have a port-a-potty for customer's convenience & prices were very reasonable. If you go, bring your appetite and/or sweet tooth! Plenty of seating & parking available. Handicapped accessible. Many flavors of ice cream also. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the bee's! I can deal with slow service, it may not always be like that anyhow, but I'd rather not have to be rushed to the hospital because of a bee sting, or have to use my EpiPen...
Read moreCindy's Drive In is my favorite ice cream place and hot dog place, bar none. Despite the constantly changing faces of the employees, all of them are capable of creating amazing ice cream creations, awesome burgers and so much more. They simply have the widest variety of soft serve ice cream out there. Their list of ice creams also updates constantly. (DON'T EAT THE SOUR PATCH FLAVOR. IT'S BAD.) My only complaint is that they got rid of my favorite flavor, Candy Apple. It was added during my teens and I had it every summer since, often multiple times, until this one. But you simply can't go wrong with ordering food there. Onion rings are crispy, hot dogs have wonderfully toasted buns and perfectly grilled dogs, their chili and chili dogs are also great. I've been going to Cindy's since I was a little boy (I'm 25 now) and will continue to go there when I am an old man and it is hopefully still around. I make it my goal to go at least 5 times with my Mom as a ritual every Summer. Despite being a former diner, this tiny Granby building with a 50s aesthetic and music has better burger restaurant food than any local chain or American fast food restaurant in Massachusetts that I have been to. We tip a full 25% there every time, because it's THAT GOOD. Its competitors in the areas, like Frostie's in Sunderland simply cannot compare. You simply have to go there if you're ever near Western Massachusetts on holiday or aren't often near Granby. It's always worth the trip and hopefully stays around for many decades to come so that I may bring any future...
