The Grand Manor and Apothecary Bar & Lounge used to be another restaurant and they have just reopened under a new name with new management. We were there in early May 2024 and they had only just opened recently. They weren't well-advertised yet, but we thought we would check them out since there aren't many restaurant options at that time of the year in Grand Lake. Also, someone at the Western Riviera and another place had mentioned them.
The staff was friendly though we primarily worked with Diego. In talking to him about future plans for the place he did mention downstairs they were planning to open a cigar bar and some other things. They might also plan to host small gatherings/weddings, but don't quote me on that. Please check with them. There were a couple other families there and some people stopped in just to learn more about it with the intent of eating there another night. The furniture was a little 'eclectic', perhaps by design, but we sat near a window and it was cozy.
The menu back then was on the small side with not a lot of options, but maybe it has grown since our visit? I do hope they expand the menu because what we did have was very tasty and seemed freshly/homemade; not out of a box.
There are Cuban dishes, Italian dishes, and some other things. I don't remember the non-alcoholic beverages being on the menu back then. My wife had Meatballs and Spaghetti with a Malbec and I had the Chicken Parmesan and coffee. The garlic bread was soft and warm. The salads and dishes were nicely presented. We had the yummy Creme Brulee for dessert. I learned after I ordered a refill on the coffee that it was per cup, rather than free refills. Keep that in mind if you get coffee.
We enjoyed our dining experience there and the next time we are back in Grand Lake we plan to visit again. Since they were just getting up and running for their first season I assume the menu will expand...
Read moreMy parents and I came here for their 45th wedding anniversary because it had 5 stars on google. It was such a sad dinner. We ordered the fish and chips with salad. All of our fish was chewy, dark, and you had to search to find the fish in the breading. Had to spit many bites out… Tasted like it was out of a frozen box and reheated multiple times & the fish had disintegrated. The lettuce in the salad was hot and wilted. I couldn’t finish my meal and my parents just tried to make the best of it for their anniversary.
We ordered desert, the cheesecake and cannoli. The cheesecake was clumpy and hot. The cannoli was so hard that we couldn’t cut it with a knife. It wouldn’t break, it was like a brick. We sent it back immediately.
We are so sad that the anniversary dinner turned out to be the worst meal we’ve ever eaten in our lives. We should have known to turn around when we were the only ones in the restaurant at 5:00pm on a Sunday.
When we told the waitress how awful it was, she acted clueless and no one came to talk to us about our unpleasant experience?
PLEASE, don’t listen to the other reviews. I think they’re family or paid for? There’s no way this place got authentic 5 star reviews. Go to McDonalds and save yourself a hundred dollars. Management doesn’t even care, as they never came to check on us after we sent back our food. Now we’re home and feeling super sick after our meal. Biggest regret of the...
Read moreWe love this restaurant. It is relatively new, so most people don't know about its outstanding food and great staff. First, I should say that the signage isn't large and you can drive by it without seeing it. Put in the address and slow down as you approach. There is a sign if you aren't going too fast. But the restaurant is conveniently located right off of US 34 between Granby and Grand Lake, and it is a great place for a high quality dinner when you are visiting this beautiful area. Where to start? With the food, of course. You can order anything from a simple burger to a gourmet level Poke. They offer red trout, Italian dishes, Pho, sandwiches, vegetarian choices (not all on the menu)...the list goes on. The owner, Karen, is very attentive and sweet. The mixed drinks are works of art, and they have a decent wine selection. My husband ordered an excellent Malbec with his dinner. The atmosphere is elegant but not fussy, and we had live music on Thursday night that was subtle and lovely. We loved the place so much that we went there twice in three days. The photos are of the Poke dishes, and a chicken dish. For the level of cuisine, the prices...
