As a foodie, I was excited to try Julien's, not only because of the beautiful farm atmosphere but also because their Sriracha mayo brisket biscuit sounded amazing. The food and pastries definitely live up to expectation, with a bit of a high price point- which is to be expected with the quality ingredients. There are a few notes I definitely think this restaurant can improve on. Line management being the biggest thing I noticed, as people are all crowded inside of the tiny cafe space where it feels claustrophobic. There is a drink area and food area to pick up the respective items, which is difficult to reach considering the swarm of people that are inside. People will block the exit and entrance doors because they don't have anywhere else to stand, and it's an agoraphobic nightmare. Seating is another area where I think Julien's can improve, as there is only a few small tables and one big table that just simply isn't enough for the amount of people that come to eat there. I noticed there is definitely space for at least one more table or a waiting area, so people are not packed like sardines inside.
The drinks were also an area for improvement, I have tried all the lemonades (strawberry, regular, arnold palmer), and I noticed they lack in sweetness and are a little bitter. Their strawberry matcha was the most underwhelming for me, considering the lack of flavor. It just tasted like milk to me. They do provide sugar, but I think the overall variety of beverages could be better considering it's hard to even reach the table where all of the condiments are, when you have 50 people packed inside one little space at a time.
I would definitely come back again. The staff was respectful and sweet. The food makes it worth the trip and wait, I think the pictures speak for themselves in quality and the apple danish had a sweet cream inside that was fresh- my favorite pastry was the lemon poppy seed bread for it's fluffy, rich texture. I just wish the establishment would consider expanding their seating and how they manage...
Read moreJulien’s is truly something special. This small, converted garage-into-farmstand is unassuming on the outside, but like all the best things in life, the real magic happens inside.
If you arrive early enough, you’ll see a bakery case filled with homemade goods that have the familiarity of your mother’s kitchen, with the finesse of a professional pastry chef. The art here lies in the simplicity of the food with the utmost emphasis on quality and presentation. If ever you could taste love as an ingredient, you would taste it baked inside everything here.
The very first time I drove 40 minutes to eat here, I arrived late morning on a Sunday. The bakery case was all but empty, but I was still able to get a sausage egg and cheese with carmelized onions (oh my god!!) on a biscuit, and a salted caramel latte. I sat outside, and after I just about licked the paper clean, all I wanted to do was storm back inside in a passionate fury and demand to know who had made food THIS good.
On my second visit today, I didn’t hesitate to let the staff know just how amazing they are. Even with a line circling inside, the cashier chatted with me in a way that felt genuine and personal. I couldn’t help but gush about how happy I was to be back there to eat again, and how I wish I had told them the first time how truly fantastic their kitchen was. From the way the entire staff lit up, I know that they all put their hearts into every corner of this business.
One of the most beautiful things in life is to see someone follow their passion, create art, make magic, and spread joy. I hope that Julien and his staff know nothing but success, and are proud every day of what they have created here.
If you’re in the area, I’d encourage you to stop by. And if you’re not in the area, I’d implore you to take the drive. It is...
Read moreNot toddler friendly (a lot of garden beds that right now in the early spring you can’t tell are garden beds) and one guy kind of passive aggressively told my 17 month old that’s a garden bed. No problem just didn’t realize it as it was a mix of grass and rocks and dirt. Some are very clearly garden beds others (by the back door are not). Would not recommend bringing little little toddlers under 2. Was ok with my 3 year old. Food was expensive but decent. Coffee was good. Could have been better service/more friendly.
Update: the owner commenting back clearly has yelled at other children as my child is not a boy was very clearly wearing a bow so they must thinking of another family. And they must not have children as 17 month old children outside explore and( as I myself was unaware it was a garden bed my 17 month old exploring and learning life most definitely does not) had I known it was a garden bed I would not let me child play in it. As I kindly removed my child once known) I mean rocks and grass in a messy looking dirt area was not CLEARLY a garden bed) but either way just still stating the fact it’s not toddler friendly as most toddlers are little explorers. Not to mention they have free roaming dogs assumed they are the workers or owners as there are signs no dogs allowed that beg for food. As far as reviews I rarely leave one unless there are things I think people would find helpful or for the company to make improvements. I most definitely have left outstanding reviews for things that are exceptional! So Again note the passive aggressive approach from the staff. As far as my specific reviews that were poor were safety concerns, if you look back I have left many glowing reviews 5 start when service and product...
