Hotel = A+
Restaurant = D-
Spent 2 nights here while grouse hunting and fishing near marcell. Spent they day working very hard to chase grouse, came back to hotel literally starving. Restaurant was packed with a line at 7:30 so we came back at 8 and found a spot at the bar. We were told the kitchen closes at 10 when we checked in so we weren't too concerned. We were served a beer and we asked for a menu but we were ignored. Tried to get the bartenders attention several times to get a menu. Finally, at 8:45 we were able to get the bartenders attention only to find out the kitchen was closing at 9 and there would be no dinner for us. I was incredibly upset by this as we were so hungry we couldn't see straight. This is actually the second time this exact same thing has happened to me here. The Timberwolf Inn should give their hotel guests some priority as they are relying on the restaurant to eat. There is no McDonald's down the street for a backup option. Every other aspect of the business is very good, been coming here for years. This really pisssed me off, not sure if...
Read moreI've been three times. I go out to eat to try food I won't make, or try something different and because it's nice when others are preparing the food and doing the services it takes to have food on the table. Jj in
Out of the three times I've gone I've been lucky to have two different waitresses. Both were great. Food was served when it was plated in the kitchen because it came out hot, and the restaurant was pretty busy. First time I had the Friday fish fry, all you can eat if you can eat more than is on the plate when served. It was perfectly fried and came with choice of potatoes and salad bar. Bg wedge of lemon was on the plate with very good tartar sauce and I'm picky about Tatar sauce. Next went to Sunday breakfast. Homemade bread for toast sort of says it all. The third time I had the Walleye Sandwich. Big piece of walleye on grilled French bread bun and onion rings. Not at all greasy and walleye was perfectly fried Friendly and helpful waitresses and...
Read moreYou exceeded our expectations and then some! From the immediate greeting upon walking in, to the perfect pink in the patty melt and the melt-in-your-mouth steak bites in some extra tasty herb butter compound (empty plate in photo - we ate it too fast to take a quality pic), we were so happy about our decision to skip responsibility and dine out.
Your servers were happy and excited to be there, which is honestly a breath of fresh air these days. They provided extraordinary service and the ambiance of the space was quintessential northern Minnesota! Even to the bathroom decorations that are an identical match to decor on our living room walls.
We felt welcomed, included and excited by the experience and we cannot wait to come back! Thank you for elevating the northern bar/dining experience and setting a high standard for rural restaurants - proving great food and service IS possible in...
