Mama's Mercantile & Eatery — Restaurant in Grass Lake Charter Township

Tried Mamas for the 1st time with some takeout. Got a few things to try, including the Americana Burger, The Italion Stallion pizza, and the Buffaloe Chicken Dip.

The burger and fries were one of the worst I have ever had. The bun was the highlight of the meal, very soft and delicious. I ordered it medium, and to say it was charcoaled would be an understatement. Even some of the cheese was burnt to a crisp black, and there wasn't a drop of pink in this patty. It was so charcoaled that it left a lingering bitter taste in my mouth for 30+ minutes after eating. I now know why the restaurant was filled with smoke when I got there to pick up my order it was apparently my burger patty! The burger sauce was OK and the veggies were fine. The French fries were run of the mill fast food skinny fries and they had an almost stale like bite to them. They weren't soggy or overcooked, but they just had an odd chewyness that's hard to describe.

The Buffaloe dip was OK. It had very little flavor; cream cheese, plain chicken, and the lightest hint of some hot sauce that was barely detectable.

For the pizza, $22 for a small pizza puts it at a pretty premium price point, and it was just OK. The dough must have been overstretched or punctured as the pieces were coming apart in random spots (pictured is where the dough overlapped and was coming undone). The pepperoni was good, and so was the sauce, even though it was extremely light on sauce. The other meats were as tough as beef jerky and detracted from the pie. The cheese was overly thick and had a dull color that reminded of Sam's club take-home pizzas.

I was craving a salad on Sunday night and my options were slim. I was very grateful that Mama’s was still open and had a salad that sounded delicious so I ordered online for pickup. The place was super cute and the staff were friendly even if my encounter was very brief during pickup.

I was warned that Mama’s was overpriced but I didn’t have many other options so I dealt with that possibility. After lifting my salad to-go box I instantly knew that my friend’s were right. Even for a salad it was so light…the box weighed more than the salad. I opened it to make sure the order was accurate and was instantly disappointed with the size of a $17 salad.

The salad was yummy…I would never take away from that. But for a salad with no major protein (besides a small amount of bacon) it was WAY overpriced. Maybe you get a better portion when you are sitting down at the restaurant but the to-go version was sad. At the very least they should’ve had a ton more lettuce to make it look bigger. All the ingredients were fresh but the portions were paltry. I could barely taste any bacon because there wasn’t much of it. The candied pecans were the only exception…I had plenty of those.

This satisfied my craving for a salad so I am once again grateful for that…but what I received was a $12 salad at best. Next time I will go to the grocery store and make my own. Not...

This dedication to making staples from scratch ensures a superior product.

Complementing the excellent food was impeccable service. Our server, Stephanie, was an outstanding guide. She demonstrated remarkable knowledge in clearly articulating the menu details, particularly the house-made components, and maintained a flawless, attentive presence throughout the evening.
