After a long morning of Uber driving, I found myself at the intersection of Hwy 17 and SR 16 in Green Cove Springs. I turned into an otherwise desolate-looking plaza, save for the oasis, there, that is Larry's Giant Subs.
It was time for lunch before returning to St. Augustine! For sure Larry's Giant Subs would have something just for me!
I've never been to a Larry's Giant Subs. I figured that visit would be perfect for a Caesar salad, as I often enjoy comparing this kind of salad, in particular, from one establishment to another.
I was given a choice between a large or small. I asked the difference and the sweet young lady motioned behind her to show me the size of the bowls for dining in. I was definitely ready for a good size portion of greens! I took a queue from a sign on their deli glass advertising, "Deana's chicken Caesar salad," having been brought back, "by popular demand." So, I swung also for a good dose of protein.
Well, I'll say! The chicken was delivered to me steaming on top of that heaping bowl of Caesar salad as you may see in the video clip. I just had to capture the beauty I had noticed about my lunch before I dug in!
My Caesar salad was so good and so filling I could hardly finish the last residing croutons at the bottom of my otherwise empty bowl.
The parmesan was shredded and the amount used did suffice!
The lettuce was a hearty green color all the way through--supple but absolutely of the nutritious sort! I love to see that Larry's Giant Subs doesn't hold back about the quality of the greens they use to make up an entire large salad.
The Caesar dressing came already coated very evenly on the greens, which I appreciate. It was a conservative amount of dressing--the perfect amount to serve for all levels of dietary preference when ordering that kind of salad. However, I enjoy dialing up the sensory experience of my Caesar just a bit.
I waited until I already finished all the chicken and half the salad before approaching the counter to ask for more dressing. I was happy the girl who took my order obliged my request happily without charging me more for the same kind of dressing.
I tried the cherry limeade as a fountain drink, but I'll admit I left a bit of room in my cup to top it off with Starry soda. That made it even more fantastic to wash my salad down with!
Next time I find myself out that far at Hwy 17 and SR 16 I'll be sure to stop in, again, and branch out to try something else on the menu!
Thanks Larry's Giant Subs of Green Cove Springs! I had the dining room nearly all to myself during my visit, but I can imagine how busy and hopping your location is when droves of hungry people are coming in your door.
Thanks for the good, healthy, nutritious filling and tasty bites of salad. I hope to...
Read moreWe spotted Larry's while driving down the road and stopped by, walking in and placing our order at 4:40 PM on 6/7/23.
There was nobody ahead of us online, and a few dine in guests finishing up.
We ordered:
1 Animal (medium) 1 Turkey sub (medium) 1 BLT (no cheese)
We asked for the free pickle spears.
Shortly thereafter, the place cleared out. We waited. And waited. And waited.
Almost 30 minutes for our food. While we waited, the employees were making sandwiches for someone, presumably take out orders. It would have been great if they prioritized our 3 sandwiches so we could have gone on our way, but whatever. We waited almost half an hour!
When we received our food, we figured we would check the bag. Maybe we were being punked. Or on a hidden camera show that makes you wait forever for your food.
We found 4 sandwiches instead of the 3 we ordered.
We were given, and charged for, an extra BLT.
The BLT has cheese- it was ordered without cheese because I'm lactose intolerant.
There were no pickles.
Uncovering this mess added to the already half hour wait time to receive 3 ...no 4 sandwiches in an otherwise empty store.
We walked out. Talking to them about this would have taken up even more of our time. The food tasted fine.
Never going back. Welcome...
Read moreVienna beef products from Chicago are extremely good products. I drove 20 miles one way over here to get a Chicago dog because I am from Chicago and wanted legit food. Last time I was here I ordered Chicago hot dog and an Italian beef. Neither were prepared legit. The beef was cold lunch meat, not dipped and not on a Chicago bus such as Gonnella brand. And it wasn't dipped in the aujus. Today I advised to not toast my poppy seed buns and to steam them or leave them at room temp. We got 4 dogs on toasted poppy seed buns and the dogs weren't hot.
WTAF is going on here?
If you're going to represent a brand be faithful to it and not butcher it.
