TACO GIRO - Green Valley & FORE GOLF — Restaurant in Green Valley

We ate at the Green Valley/Sahuarita location that just opened. Despite arriving at a terrible time, Sunday night at 6:30, we had a wonderful meal. I'll admit that it looked like we were 20+ people deep on the wait list, but a little patience and the big groups ahead of us were seated fairly promptly. The young guys manning the host station were figuring their jobs out, but mostly took folks based on group size and who arrived first.

But that aside, the food was phenomenal. The salsa and crema dips while we read the menu were tasty. The two of us ordered a Molcajete and a #3 combo, and both were large servings and very tasty. The flour tortillas were fresh, warm and delicate, obviously handmade with care. Everything was cooked, served hot, and very pleasatly presented. The Molcajete bowl itself was warmed, so everything in it remained warm throughout the meal.

I think next time we might share a molcajete, with some appatizers and extra tortillas. The portions weere that large, and we try not to overdo it.

The only dings were that the newly opened restaurant needs to help manage both the demand, and to train the well meaning and hard-working staff. We did see the manager person as he ran around trying to keep things flowing. The other ding was the noise level. This is a small dining area, and the floors and walls are tiled or hard surfaces, so the noise just bounces back and forth. Maybe a few cloth hangings could help lessen the din when it is crowded, but this isn't the only restaurant that needs that bit of advice.

Taco Giro What a welcome addition to local dining in Green Valley. The first thing I noticed about Taco Giro is the decor. Thought to myself, “I’m not in Green Valley” anymore. The second was how busy they were for lunch on a Wednesday. Two groups of 15-17 were seated ahead of my group of six causing some concern-which was soon set aside-as we were soon enough well taken care of by a very personable and knowledgeable server. All six in my party ordered different menu selections, so we had a good cross section from the incredibly large and diverse menu. One thing I appreciate is that breakfast is served all day. I’ve discovered in my years in Arizona that “Mexican” eateries often have incredible “American Breakfasts” and this looked to be the case at Taco Giro as we witnessed various trays of food on the way to diners. I was amazed by how well informed and trained staff were given the size and variety of the menu. Our only mistake was accepting the offer as a booth for six for our group of six men. We made it work, but would in the future opt to wait for a table. All in all, a wonderful outing. Prices are on the higher end of local Mexican restaurants, but this felt appropriate given the decor, locale and most of all the food. We ate there twice. The first time I ate too much of the chips and dip before dinner but it was so good! We were just lucky to be there on margarita Monday and enjoyed several $2.99 margaritas. Service from Alexa was great- attentive without being obtrusive. I enjoyed a shrimp dish and my wife got a custom combo plate to her liking. The second time was a Saturday so we arrived earlier in case of crowds. Not too crowded but the service was incredibly slow. No refills on drinks, hardly any attention paid to us. It's not that the waitstaff was slow, they were just so busy, they must have been understaffed. We didn't help by ordering tableside handmade guacamole which took time to make and it was mostly devoid of flavor other than smashed avocados and onions. No one really liked their food, it was just okay, and one of the meals was wrong but it took so long to get it, she ate it anyway. If this had been my first impression, it would have been my last.
