Have you ever wondered what the towns of the Mississippi River are like? I’ve stopped at many of them when I kayaked the entire the river from the source to the Gulf. In this video I spend the night in Greenville, Mississippi on my way south. The locals will tell you Greenville hasn’t been Greenville in a long time. A grain embargo in 1980 crushed the shipping industry here. But one of the businesses that has survived is Doe’s Eat Place. And the locals will also tell you, that’s the best place to grab a steak in Mississippi. #mississippiriver #mississippi #doeseatplace #greenvillems #mississippimade #notwaitingtolive

Drove 2 1/2 hour away for a surprise birthday dinner and I would say it was worth the drive. It was a pretty unique experience walking through the kitchen and prep area to get to the dining rooms. Wife got the ribeye and I got the 2.5lb porterhouse T-bone. Both MR with tons of flavor and the tenderloin side of the T- bone was buttery soft. Slap yourself if you dare to think of putting a sauce on these steaks. We also loved the fresh hand cut fries that came with the steaks. The salad, rather unimpressive looking, was actually good and my wife enjoyed it a lot. However, the delta tamales weren't good at all but we didn't come for that(I keep hearing people raving about delta tamales but I've yet to find one good enough. I'm convinced the delta doesn't know what a good original Hispanic tamale is and are missing out). All of the staff was friendly, service was prompt considering the size of cook times needed for these massive steaks. We went on a weeknight with a reservation but it was unnecessary. Probably need one for the weekend because of the tiny dining space available and the even smaller broiler they use for these behemoths. No menus but the options are stupid simple. Look up the menu online or be up to snuff on your knowledge of beef cuts before coming. I'm probably going filet mignon next time if I don't feel like bringing home leftovers. It is obviously a higher end diner considering the amount of steak you get. $65 for the porterhouse (Its two steaks essentially), $5 salads, and $5 beers. Felt a little taken advantage of on the salad and beer. If I knew a budweiser was going to cost me $5, I would of grabbed a microbrew like my wife. Overall, hell of a steak house. Thanks for the experience!

Friendly folks and atmosphere, had the shrimp both ways ,steak( bone n ribeye) cooked medium, and the dozen hot tamales 😋,all was good: steak 2lbs a little hard to chew ! Shrimp fried was great! Broil was just okay ,tamales was excellent 👌, 4 stars as steak was not as good as expected and price was 150.00 plus a 20 for tip and 3 hr drive to try them out ! All and all was worth the experience just wish steak would have been chewable for $70.00 There is a fragile line between a delicious, tender, and juicy steak that will excite your taste buds and one that will make you regret ordering a steak in the first place. If you know what we are talking about, chances are you experienced eating a tough and chewy steak. A tough and chewy steak is a frustrating experience. Most of the flavors are gone, and the amount of effort you need to consume that steak is enormous. Many people simply give up on a tough and chewy steak.

On Friday, on February 16th I made a reservation for Saturday, February 17th for 5:30 PM which is the time my Wife and I arrived. We were seated in this room that may hold 8 tables. We sat and watched everyone in the room being served and no one came to our table to serve us for at least 25 minutes. About that time, I stood up to leave and a waitress came to our table and asked have we been served, and I stated that we were leaving because I was upset on how long we waited. She offered us an appetizer on the house to convince us to stay. We ordered our meal, and it was not all that. I been to better steak houses, and the ambience there was very poor, there are no emergency exits, and the bathroom condition was poor. I don't see why the place have not been shut down by the health dept. in Greenville, Ms. When you enter into the place, you walk through the kitchen where the potatoes and the salad is being prepared and the steaks are being prep. It is a total disgraced why this place has not been updated. We could have gone to a hamburger joint to eat and had better service. The small paper menu was horrible with not much to order. Mc Donald French Fries taste much better. I live in Houston, Texas, and there are much better places to go sit and have a good steak in a much cleaner and better atmosphere. Does Eat Place, get it together or close...

DOE’S EAT PLACE is not a restaurant, but a true Delta Treasure! Walking through that screen door and you are transported to days long past. The “decor” is not there to make you feel good, but precious keepsakes that each have a unique story. The food is absolute perfection and well worth the price. The casual atmosphere makes it feel like home and the staff are like family to every customer. Bring your favorite wine in your purse or brown bag special. Beer, cokes, & Sweet Tea are available of course. For large parties, call ahead for a reservation and let them know you’re coming because they are packed every night (for good reason)! My favorite food item is the broiled shrimp and the garlic bread for dipping. It’s best to arrive with an empty tummy and a full wallet! Tip those waitresses double because they are one of a kind! Don’t forget to snap a photo outside to prove you were at the “original” DOE’S!! It’s a tradition. Don’t leave your Diamonds on your Dash with your car unlocked because..well you know what you did wrong there. Remember where you are because we are all “dirt poor” here 😅 in the Dirty Delta, but those of us that live here know that we are blessed to live in this quiet little part of our country filled with good people and loads of character! ...
