This is a 2 part review: hopefully the hard working restaurant staff & Mgr dont feel this concerns their good service. Firstly, we generally do Take-Out svs 98% of the time. You must place your last Supper order by 7:45 p.m. tho online hrs stated we're open til 9 p.m. i dont know if thats their small corner bar hrs (as many locals & golfers like to hang out) but theyre incorrect. There are several golf fund-raisers, leagues, tournaments, etc. Folks often congregate at bar thereafter. Our fav meal is the juicy qtr pound of beef, cheddar cheeseburger w/steak fries. I honestly dont think youll find a better one at their price. You could head to Mystic's The Mariner and you'd def have top notch: pro wait staff, chef and a newer, more $ invested in restaurant w/great people watching seating by the glass windowed front of their restaurant. But, youd first need to locate Public pkg, make a reservation-if you can, and fight the Summer & Autumn tourists! Ill jump off from my contrasting the diff in Par Four pub food to The Mariner's pub fare. Here's the issue for the restaurant Mgr & her staff, the Town of Groton is their landlord-owns their facility. Now thats a long review in itself as to how challenged this town hall's Recreation Dept is which runs the Shennecossett golf course but the focus here is Par Four. This facility is old! There are simple things Groton could do to improve this facility's maintenance which honestly, have an annual fundraiser on golf course just for Par Four Restaurant annual improvements. For ex, rip out that old, sad carpet & replace w/affordable vinyl flooring. The ocean is 2 blocks away, how about a nautical color scheme? A grant i believe was gotten to replace the old rest rooms-i think theyre still working on them but maybe im wrong. Its small and im always walking through the tiny bar to exit which is confusing for me, i do believe if you eat there..you can exit without having to expose yourself to alcohol. So to wrap up this review, good pub food, personable wait staff, exc Mgr. We also love the appetizer, Chicken Kickers w/Buffalo sauce & blue cheese. On-site pkg, handi-capped accessable ramp & 2 handi-cap pkg spots to back of bldg where you also pick up your Take-Out. Just make sure you call by or before 7:45 p.m. and are picking up...

We sat down at a table and noticed there was only one person in the kitchen. Our table was sticky and humid, the room felt thick. The first we thing we got was a round of sodas, and each were flat and tasted like syrup. Then our wings were extremely bland and had little to no taste, while also having signs and drips of blood around the bone and some inside the chicken. Our Firecracker Kalamari was overcooked in old grease and we found bits and pieces of food that was cooked prior to serving us. The marinara sauce looked and tasted like burnt salsa. The potato skins were dry, definitely old and brittle. The cheese was rubbery and probably microwaved. Worst of all, we found a literal and solid ice cube inside a cup of sour cream. Then our meals came out, and were an absolute disaster. The stuffed cod (we sent it back before I could get a picture) had stuffing burnt on top, fish burnt and stuck to the bowl. It was extremely dry and the vegetables to come with it were dried up. The tuna salad grinder I ordered, had hardly any tuna. I asked for a tuna grinder and I got a lettuce sandwich with stale bread. The lasagna was completely unrecognizable. The platter looked like a science experiment gone wrong, as it was resting in a puddle of grease about an inch off the plate. There was a layer of burnt cheese and everything was overcooked. On the plus side, the little salads were good. And the chicken tenders were good too. The fruit that came with them, was fresh out of a can.
Despite our waitress, who apologized constantly, we were billed $80 (and that's without the cod) for a meal we were not even close to happy with.
Please don't come here, unless something changes...
Read moreGood food, pricing was very good also. Waitstaff was excellent. It was pretty busy, yet we got a table quickly. It is also well maintained and clean. I had the prime rib French dip roll with cole slaw. My dining companion had the Ruben with fries. I recommend this place for the good food and staff. They also have a full bar. This is a popular local restaurant and has been there many years. The owners were very nice as well, checking on customers, chatting with people they know, they seemed very approachable and well in tune with the staff and their customers. One does not see that very often today. My only suggestion would be for them to resolve the table top issue. The table tops are sticky. Our waitress explained why,(nothing to do with cleanliness), and they have tried hard to resolve it. My suggestion would be to try using acetone to get...
