You know the old adage Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover? Don't bypass this gem by its modest location or building. They have flavors you just don't find very frequently. We had curried shrimp, curried chicken, rice and beans, mac n cheese, a wonderful stewed cabbage mixture (I want to know how to make it) at a reasonable price. The baked mac n cheese had a little smoky nuance, just plain excellent. Not much seating because it appears they stress more take-out. We were a little burned out by fried seafood, which this area provides some of the best, so this was a nice change. We're not from the area but this meal will not be forgotten by a long shot.
Note: Follow up. We went back today (from three days ago). Food is still great. Nothing to change on the review, but I had to relate this marvelous story. We bought our dishes to go. A few minutes up the road, a car pulls along ours and honks at us - it's the proprietor/cook of the restaurant. We pull over and he says we left the credit card we used to make the purchase. Now, he leaves his restaurant (I don't think there was another person to mind the store) and somehow figures out our car in order to tell us. We get the card and I'm thinking how long it may have been before I discovered my error and even if we would have been anywhere close by. It saved a lot of headaches for us and he could have just not gone the extra mile (literally) and waited for us to contact him. My humble thanks to this person and restaurant for...
Read moreIt was my first time coming into this restaurant I had called over the phone before I got there to ask if they have any rum cake and the nice gentleman on the phone told me that they wouldn’t get any until Monday. I still decided to come to the restaurant anyway when I got there everything went downhill. Their owner of the restaurant was very rude even when I asked him to explain the menu to me and I told him it was confusing but he just kept saying it’s not confusing it’s not confusing. He offer everyone else samples in the restaurant and when I asked him why he didn’t offer me a sample yet he said because I didn’t ask. The cook of the restaurant was the only one who was nice and that’s the only reason I decided to stay there. Once I received my food I was very disappointed everything was horrible especially the cabbage which was hard and undercooked. I recommend going to Ocean springs were they have authentic Caribbean restaurants and they are the best. I will never go back to this restaurant again and I do not recommend it to anyone because of how the...
Read moreGrateful my friend mentioned this place to some tourists, in front of me, as I'd driven by for years and didn't know! Easy to find, convenient parking, 3-4 tables inside, and tons of menu options to mix and match. I had the brown stew chicken with yellow rice and mixed vegetables (zucchini, squash, peppers, onion, I believe) – DELICIOUS. Also I'm just a girl, so portion was enough for me to both snack later and have another lunch.
Prince (working during my visit, pretty sure it's his spot) was friendly, and I overheard him talking to a guest who said she hadn't been in in a long time, and he said he remembers her, mentioning her daughter by name. It is so nice when business owners genuinely connect with their guests/community.
Hoping to make it back...
