Looking for a nice outing with the family, or just a great, fun spot for people of all ages? Check out Flayvors/Cooks Farm! Best time to visit is on a nice day (weather wise) to grab an ice cream cone or sundae & hang out in a beautiful, scenic farm atmosphere with some cows & chickens! Picnic tables for guests, also have indoor seating. Prices here are quite reasonable & service is very friendly. Sometimes depending on when you go (busier on weekends!) the lines can get long, but are well worth the wait. Staff also do their best to keep it moving. They feature delicious ice cream in your favorite classic flavors, as well as some unique ones-such as Ginger or Cookie Monster, just to name a few! Portions are generous here. They also feature amazing ice cream cakes! I ordered one a few years ago for my daughter's birthday party & everyone complimented the cake & asked where we got it! Unlike most ice cream cakes that come premade in the frozen section of your grocery store, these are made fresh with your choice of ice cream! We got to choose two of my daughter's favorite flavors! They also have delicious homemade pumpkin bread loaves available for sale (seasonal item). If you've never been, I would highly recommend stopping by! Parking lot is decent sized. They also sell ice cream in containers to go, along with other items. Conveniently located in Hadley, not far from the Wal-Mart/Hampshire Mall plazas & also close to Atkins Farms (another lovely place!). I'm glad we discovered Cooks Farm & you will be too, once you try them. Clean restrooms located inside also! Animals appear to be very well cared for. My children love the...
Read moreMe and a friend dropped by the other day to check the condition of the baby cows. It was not good. A sign strangely proclaimed that the tiny little hutches they kept the little baby girl calves in were NOT veal hutches. They seemed proud of the fact they didn't have any males at their farm, but of course that begs the question, where are all the baby male cows that surely must have resulted from some of their cow pregnancies? So, Cook Farm does NOT have males in veal hutches on their farm: they send the baby boys to OTHER farms where they are kept in veal hutches and eventually killed for veal. Got it. Or do they send the males to slaughter immediately? Ship them off to be slaughtered for hamburgers? Which one is it? It has to be one of them, because somehow the cows at this farm never give birth to males. Also, some of the baby girl calves, alone in their tiny little plastic hutches, did not even access to water on a 90 degree day where the temperatures were far hotter under their plastic hutch baking in the sun. Many of the calves were lying in their own feces, flies buzzing all around them. Everyone can see for themselves, I've got the pictures to prove it. This place has a real sad atmosphere about it. Obviously would not...
Read moreWe love Flayvors. There are generally 2 or 3 quarts of their ice cream in our freezer at any given moment. They also do a great job with Gluten Free options, including gluten free waffle cones!
This weekend we purchased an ice cream cake for my 40th birthday. Everyone loved it. The cake had a gluten free oreo crust on the bottom (keeps it from sticking to the tray), and ice cream flavors Chocolate Chip and a special they have right now called Beth Jean's Dream. It is a "vanilla base with a chocolate swirl added into the base and a chocolate and caramel swirl through out."
Beth was the original owner of Flayvors but sadly has passed away, this flavor is to honor her memory. From the Flayvor's Facebook Page:
" “Beth Jean’s Dream” is the ice cream flavor we came up with to honor her...This flavor will change from year to year but will always reflect things Beth loved. This years flavor was created by looking back on some of her grandkids favorite memories with her...This flavor is available for the month of October. All proceeds from “Beth Jean’s Dream” will go towards a scholarship in her name..."
Definitely go and pick up some of this flavor while...
