T-Box Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Ham Lake

I went to T-Box for the first time for dinner on a Sunday night. I think it is probably the best restaurant in the area food quality wise. I'm willing to overlook the poor service we received given it was a sunday night and she might have been new, but I did take a star off for it until I have another chance to try this place again.

The Food: We ordered the Steak Burger, Box Burger, and the guido pizza. I have to say that all the food was excellent, surprisingly so for a 'bar & grill' in a strip mall. The fries seemed to be housemade and were crispy and delicious, and the burger was cooked medium well at my request, without being overly charred, and was juicy and very tasty. The Box Burger, which is their juicy lucy, is heaped with toppings and the pizza was great. The portions were also very generous. We will be going back to try the steak which looked amazing and the fire baked cheese which has been recommended to me.

The Service: Here is where this place went from 4 stars, to 3. The service was pretty terrible. The restaurant it pretty small and there were 2 servers and a bartendender. Our waitress forgot to put in our appetizer order in to the point that when we asked about it when our entrees came she didn't seem to even remember us ordering it. Annoying, but I was willing to overlook simple human error, we had her take the app off our bill and she made no attempt to make it up to us. She hardly checked in on us at all, our drinks sat empty for the entire meal until we finally were able to flag her down to ask for refills and I asked for a side of mayo. She forgot both of those things and only came back when we were done to ask if we wanted refills and to give us the check. Again I will emphasize it was not busy, and the restaurant isn't that big.

Ambience: This place feels intimate and quaint, with only a few tables, some wooden booths, and a fireplace. I can definitely feel the vibe they are trying to put up - wine connoisseur with some steak place but...

My boyfriend and I frequent this restaurant and are always so pleased! Excellent service, tasty drinks and delicious food!

Most recently, I had the maple glazed salmon with asparagus and potato croquette. SO YUMMY! The portion size is excellent, I left feeling satisfied. Whatever is in the maple glaze is sweet and savory and delicious, giving all the items on the plate an extra layer of complexity. It really tied the dish together. The potato croquette is my favorite side at TBOX, the crunchy outside and creamy mash inside is just unbeatable.

I tried the pecan pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert, and was pleasantly surprised at the lemony brightness in the pecan pie tart. It was like a perfect blend of lemon bars and pecan pie, tangy and sweet and nutty...yum! And Sebastian Joe's ice cream is such a lovely treat this far from the city. It was an excellent complement to the pie.

The service is always excellent, and we feel well taken care of. Despite not having reservations, we were able to snag the last table (woohoo!), but I think we will be sure to plan a bit better next time. It was BUSY! even though the restaurant was packed, we didn't ever feel rushed. My boyfriend's pop was always full. Things just felt perfect paced. And Zac stopping by the table was delightful, he has the brightest and most welcoming personality!!
