Can you have bad ice cream? Throwback stand in Livingston County, around since 1976. Enough kind and combinations to make your head spin. Line was backed up across the parking lot (on a rainy night) and the staff processed the orders quickly. Great place to visit if you are in the area.

The junior bs was no junior in my opinion! Thank goodness my son was there to help me finish it! Amazing staff and hometown treat even after 30yrs!

Great ice cream and big menu! Several covered picnic tables. Pretty flowers too! Fast friendly service and it was affordable. I recommend!

If you're anywhere near the "knuckle" of the Michigan Mitten, do yourself a favor and sail straight to Cap’n Frosty in Pinckney. This delightful little ice cream parlour is a true gem of the Lower Peninsula — tucked right where the lush woods meet small-town charm, and summer feels like a nostalgic postcard.

The first thing that hits you (other than the sweet scent of waffle cones and dreams) is the midwestern charm of the staff. Every single person behind that counter radiated kindness, warmth, and the sort of wholesome friendliness that makes you wonder if they’ve been cast in a feel-good Hallmark movie set in a magical ice cream town.

Now, about the ice cream: the portions are IMMENSE. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the "small" could double as a flotation device. I almost ordered a medium — full of foolish pride — but was wisely talked down by my infinitely more rational wife, Melanie. Thank you, Melanie. Without your sage counsel, I might still be there, buried under a dairy avalanche. The flavors? Spot-on. Creamy, rich, and absolutely worth the sticky fingers.

As we sat on a bench under the warm Michigan sky, basking in the afterglow of frozen bliss, a teenage kid zoomed by on an electric bike — popping wheelies like he was auditioning for a suburban Fast & Furious: Pinckney Drift. He circled the street with the same intensity as a hawk eyeing a scoop of Superman ice cream. Was he menacing? A bit. Did he add an unexpected edge to the evening? Absolutely.

Even as I enjoyed my perfectly proportioned small cone, the teen terror zipped by again — doing a wheelie so aggressive I swear the pavement flinched. For a moment, I thought we’d all be launched into a slow-motion movie scene. But somehow, it just made the night more memorable. Cap’n Frosty is now etched into my summer lore not just for the ice cream, but for the surreal, slightly menacing electric-bike ballet happening in the background.

In conclusion: Go to Cap’n Frosty. Let the staff’s midwestern kindness melt your heart. Get the small (seriously). And keep an eye out for the wheelie kid — he’s part of the experience now.

10/10 would return. Maybe next time, I’ll challenge him...

I specifically asked the teenager working the register to make my sundae caramel on the bottom, then soft serve, then the butterscotch hard shell topping. She told me this could not be done in this order. They can't make them that way.. Which is not true as I have had it made this way before. I explained if she put the caramel on top of the ice cream then added the hard shell topping it would not set. It has to be on top of the cold ice cream, not the warm caramel. She said in the most.. I know everything because I am snotty and 16 condescending tone.. "Don't worry we got this" with eye roll. Whelp .. what I got was a disgusting wet mess of unhardened chocolate hard shell over warm caramel and runny ice cream. The line was so long and they were so busy I threw it in the trash and left. Perhaps they should educate their staff about one, giving the customer what they ask for and two actually knowing how the product they sell works. And most importantly don't be a snotty know it all. LISTEN to what your...

I can't speak highly enough of this local gem. Not only does this place serve the most divine ice cream, but they also have an exceptional service to match! The variety of flavors is tantalizing, and every scoop is a creamy delight.

During our visit, my son accidentally dropped his ice cream. Before we could even react, the staff had noticed and replaced it without us having to ask. They even remembered our order when we returned just a minute later. This kind of attentive service truly made us feel valued and welcomed.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and treat your taste buds to this spot. It's more than just an ice cream shop - it's an experience. We'll certainly be regulars...
