I really wanted to love this place. The food is outstanding and it is only about 15 minutes from me. My wife and I tried this place 7 times, hoping the service would get better. During our last visit, which will be our LAST visit, we tried the bar area instead, hoping service would improve. It ended up being the WORST experience yet. It was Saturday night and the place wasn't even busy; 3 guests at the bar, two tables sat in the bar, maybe five tables in the main dining room. The bartender never came to our table. Ten minutes after we were sat, she asked a waiter to come to our table. He took our order and said he would be right back with the complimentary banana chips. We ordered two bar drinks and two waters. The drinks took another ten minutes, no waters, no chips. We specifically asked for the waters and chips again. Another ten minutes the food came out, no waters, no chips, no silverware or napkins. We sat there for 5 minutes until someone walked by. We told the person everything we were missing. Silverware came immediately. Had to call over the original waiter for the chips/waters. Sat there with our dirty plates for another ten minutes until the waiter came back. Horrible. During our very first visit, the owner made his rounds and made sure he talked to each table, even gave a free drink ticket for us to return. Since that first visit, we never saw the owner again during our subsequent 6 visits. For a business that appears to be struggling, you would think their service would be a priority. If this was a one-time occurrence, we could write this off as maybe the waiter was going through it. But this happens every time and with a different waiter/waitress each time. Last night was our last straw. As good as the food is, not worth...
Read more"La Casona" (a large house or a mansion in Spanish) took up the place of the Hamilton veteran restaurant "Palermo." It's situated on Klockner Rd, not far from the intersection with East State Street (Hamilton Building Supply) and is accessed via Klockner or neighborhood streets.
There is spacious parking in the back of the restaurant. However, we are not sure how sufficient the parking is during the peak hours.
The interior offers both conventional dining and the bar counter areas. Both are very roomy.
The restaurant specializes in ethnic Hispanic food, from the Caribbean region (Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba) to Central American (Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica) and South American (Peru) cuisines.
The menu is very extensive. As mentioned, you can try different regional specialties. The menu also greatly varies in prices, from more budget hamburgers and sandwiches to more expensive items such as steaks in their $30s price range.
All our food tasted really, really good. The soft tacos were amazing, and Ceviche Campechano was fresh and very attractively presented. The main courses are really huge. If we knew how big the portion sizes were, we probably won't need appetizers. You can check out the restaurant's detailed menu on their website, even though this menu is not complete; the full version is accessed by scanning the QR code provided on each table.
Service is very obliging and friendly. La Casona is not a BYOB. The alcohol prices are average.
To sum it all up, it's a great new addition to the Mercer County dining scene. Highly recommended. We will...
Read moreA few weeks ago, 6 friends and I went to La Casona for lunch. Only one of us had been there before, but we're all always up for something new so we gave this place a try. We were so glad we did! The restaurant is very bright and clean and the decor just made us smile. We were greeted by very friendly staff who seemed genuinely pleased that we had chosen their restaurant for lunch. They were absolutely delightful, so professional and so eager to make our time there memorable. Shout out to Daniella who was just so sweet! All of us got tacos and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. I got the chicken tacos and they were SO flavorful. I had asked if the pico de gallo served with them had cilantro in it and was told it did, so I told them I didn't want it. Without being asked, they brought me some without cilantro. So thoughtful.
When my friend had made reservations, she mentioned that we would be celebrating 2 birthdays. After clearing our lunch dishes, Daniella and her co-worker came over to ask the names of the birthday girls. We told them, and a few minutes later they came out with a sign saying Happy Birthday to them and two large pieces of tres leches cake. They seemed very happy to celebrate the birthdays with us.
There's nothing not to like about this restaurant! It's clean and bright, the service is exemplary and the food is excellent. The menu is Latin Fusion Cuisine with lots of different foods....
