Went for dinner on Thursday, October 19th. PROS - Decor - absolutely beautiful! Classy and elegant. Was so great to see so many retirees at Berkeley out having dinner in their community again. Quantity of the food served was impressive.
CONS - Very disorganized service staff. There was alot of confusion on their reservations. The diners ahead of me were sent home until 6:30 (an hour later). I felt sorry for service staff as they were definitely struggling to keep up. Bartender overwhelmed. It took 15 minutes to get my cocktail, and bar service was SUPER slow all evening. At least a 15 minute wait for each cocktail/glass of wine. Waitress said the bartender had "tickets out the butt".... We had a party of 12, and were told we'd have to sit at 2 separate tables as tables are not allowed to be moved and some are bolted to the floor (?) So we had 9 at one table and 3 at another. I've never experienced that before. There were 50+ people packed into the dark back dining room and the noise level was so loud you couldn't talk to each other at the table(S). Limited Menu, mediocre Appetizers at best. We ordered the Shrimp (no cocktail sauce), the Artichoke dip was too salty to enjoy. Everything overseasoned. As for my meal, I should have sent it back. I didn't want to offend the gentleman paying for dinner, but had I been the person paying for the meal, I definitely would have sent it back. SO much salt and garlic and balsamic that I couldn't finish it. One of the ladies I dined with ordered the same thing, and our meals looked completely different, even in the coloring of the Pasta. She said the same thing as I did- wayyyy too salty. The Coach House is dear to my heart and I so badly wanted to love it, but I did not. Dark, NOISY, slow service (it took 3 hours to serve dinner to our party). Manager Leesa was nice but had no knowledge of the Wine selections when she tried to take my drink order. Limited Menu and nothing Chocolate on the dessert menu, which was interesting. But the quality of the food is what will keep me...
Read moreWe were a little bit worried about this one based on the recent reviews. No need to worry, it was a very nice meal. Very good, although not great. And not as pricey as I thought it would be. My wife had the filet mignon, the most expensive item on the menu ($32), I had a cup of chili ($4) and the Chicken Milanese ($20). All the items were very good. The only rather expensive item was my wife's red wine selection ($14), but it was one of their nicer wines and it was a good pour. Overall, a good place to eat while in town. It did seem a little bit odd with all the old people eating there (earlier than us, we arrived at 6p), apparently they are from the local retirement community. But there was also a rehearsal dinner group of young people that arrived as we were leaving. So they cater to...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting the Coach House. We made reservations for lunch but on this particular day we would have just been able to walk in and be seated. The atmosphere was nice and looked to be more upscale. The four of us had a hard time deciding on what to eat because there are many good menu choices. I had the Hamilton's Finest Chicken Berry Salad and it was up there with one of the best salads I have ever had. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. They had the Stockdan Club Sandwich, the Little Chicago and the Smokin Style burger and we all shared a piece of the peanut butter cream pie for dessert. I would definitely recommend trying it out. We will be back because I can't stop thinking about that salad. Sadly I forgot to take any pictures...
