I found out about this place by accident via Google. It shows the location because I was visiting a place nearby. My friend and I stopped in to check it out. We got there and no one was there but they had really cute decor so we were looking around because we really werenât sure where to go or anything and didnât see anyone. While we were walking around, a lady leaned out the window and very roughly said âCan I help you?â As if we were trespassing. This turned my friend off as he told her âWe are here for pie!â And she kind of scolded us and said well you have to go over there, directing us to the other side of the building. We didnât know what to expect. Being a farmers market, We were expecting to be able to browse through pie selections, But everything was mostly out of the way behind the counter where you couldnât see much. They had some gorgeous looking pies that I could see but then there are some other ones that were further back that I really couldnât get a good look at with the lady staring at us. It was very uncomfortable. They also seem to have homemade sauce meatballs and pot pies in a freezer case but there were no clear prices on the items. We didnât wanna be rude and just leave so I made some small talk. The lady seemed to change her tune when I mentioned we had never been there before and offered us a sample of pie. It was pumpkin and it was very good. Nice and smooth, and it had an unfamiliar kind of glaze on the top that Iâve never seen on a pumpkin pie before. Pumpkin pie is not my favorite, but I would definitely eat this one. We wound up leaving without buying anything primarily because we were not initially welcomed and also because the items for sale weâre not clearly presented or the price is properly marked. It is in the middle of nowhere so Iâm going to assume itâs mostly locals that go there and they know the routine of how to order, etc. We were not treated bad but I felt like we were supposed to know how to order and it wasnât until we mentioned we had never been there before we got slightly better customer service. Itâs a shame because the pie that I taste it was delicious and there was another pie that was absolutely gorgeous and Iâm sure it was probably delicious that I took a picture of but I just didnât want to give them my business after that interaction. I would like to give them another try the next time we pass through town. Everyone deserves a...
Read morePassed the Red Door Barn a few times when visiting the area and kept saying to myself that I really needed to stop one day and check it out when it was open. Every time I passed it was late and it was closed. This past Saturday my husband and I were in the area visiting his family and we were able to catch it open a few minutes before closing. They were actually cleaning up for the day so we were truly in luck.
The Red Door Barn is beautiful outside and even moreso inside. The pies are laid out throughout the restaurant/store on various tables, displayed openly for you to view up close. They are absolutely GORGEOUS to look at. They had everything from apple pies to peach pies to pies that were made with five different fruits. I ended up choosing two small pies. One apple and one five fruit. The only reason I took one star away is because the pies are definitely pricey. Living on Long Island, I'm blessed to live close to a famous pie place called Briermere Farms. Their pies are shipped across the world and are delicious. Their pies go for about $16 for a standard size. The two small pies came to $45 at Red Door Barn. Definitely steep but I admit the pies are more "pretty" than the place I live near. And everyone raved about the pies when we brought them to a family dinner that evening.
The woman who helped ring me up was very friendly and didn't rush me even though they were closing up soon. She introduced herself and asked my name. I didn't realize they did not accept debit or credit and the ATM machine was currently being serviced so I had to wait until the gentleman was done before I can take cash out. I'll remember next time to have cash on me as I definitely plan on going back. I don't mind paying more for quality and quality is what you get at the...
Read moreIn all honesty I can't comment on the food since I didn't actually get to eat the food that I ordered. But, I want to share my experience with the very odd customer service. I called ahead to make sure that they were serving breakfast. The owner answered the phone and said that they serve breakfast until 1:30. My husband and I got there a little before 12:30. We were seated and given breakfast menus. There was a group of 6 people seated when we got there. We ordered omelets. The waitress brought our drinks. After about 20 minutes the waitress and owner brought out burger platters to the 6 people that had been there when we arrived. But, now the owner comes over to our table and tells my husband and I that it's about 10 minutes before 1:00 and she has to clean all the grease off the grill from the burgers she just cooked for the other people and she WON'T be able to make our omelets! She said that she could heat up some mini meatloaves that she has or make burgers. The waitress took our order in plenty of time and we had been waiting. But, the owner kept saying that there was a tremendous amount of grease on the grill and she couldn't clean it all off and make omelets like we ordered. We did leave and won't be going back. This seemed to be perfectly reasonable to the owner. The waitress did seem embarrassed. Very odd way to provide...
