Chick-N-Dip — Restaurant in Hampshire Township

I have not been to this place in many years. The last time i was there it was pretty dirty. However since this place was still open and it was many years since I was there, I thought I would try it again. I wanted a hand made milk shake. I asked the teenager at the counter if they make their own milk shakes, He said yes. I asked if he could make me a thin vanilla milk shake. I reiterated I wanted it thin. He said yeah, no problem. I paid, he want to the back to make it. I thought it was strange that he was only gone about a minute. I get the shake I try taking a drink from the straw, nothing, I take the lid off and this is as thick as a frosty. Basically soft serve in a cup. I asked the kid about it, he says the machine is acting a little funny today. In other words, this was not a hand made milk shake, but from a soft serve machine. Poor quality , poor service. I know this is not the end of the world, and not a big deal. The point is just answer honesty. If you have no idea what is being asked, go ask someone else. Also train your employees better. I have been getting food from Chicken Dip since I was a young kid, about 30 years or so. The quality used to be much better. I went in today and ordered a double cheeseburger with EVERYTHING on it and all it came with was some onions. Wheres the pickles and the lettuce? I also ordered Large Cheese Fries, but when i picked up the order, it was a regular size fries with no cheese sauce and the fries were bland and had no flavor or salt. I told the cashier i ordered large cheese fries and all he came back with was a little container of cheese sauce but didnt change out my fries to the large size. With the changes in price that Chicken Dip has increased to, which are overpriced to begin with, I expected much better quality and service. This is also not the first time this has happened to me there. I am disappointed at how one of my favorite local restaurants in Hampshire for the last 30 years has gone downhill. Do better please! I have no connections to the area. I live in Chicago. We have hundreds of fast food places and hundreds of chicken places. Many are very good. I have never had such a wonderful fast food experience. This place is a treasure of our state. I expected to find a charming place resting on it's long history and laurels. Instead it had the best fried chicken I've had. The customer service is first rate. The coleslaw was so good, I took a tub home with me. I highly recommend the ice cream, malts and shakes. I read people's reviews that the fries didn't have enough salt. Did you overlook the salt packet that clearly comes with your fries? Was that not enough? I imagine they have older clientele with heart conditions that can't handle all the salt so thoughtfully they give you a choice. Be certain that anyone giving this gem a bad review either has an agenda or has allowed the soulless food they're eating at mini malls corrupt their sense of up and down.
