I grew up close by but had never eaten here. I moved to NC after joining the Navy out of high school. I came back this time for a medical emergency in my family. I went to Messinaās today tired and hungry after a long drive up yesterday. I saw they had a Steelers sign out front so I hoped they had the game on. They did! I ordered at the counter and Dominic, the guy tossing the dough, and I started talking as we watched the game. I told him why I was up here and where I came from and why I moved away. Normal football small talk as he worked on my pizza and the clock ran down on the 1st half. Dominic was a super nice guy. Family owned business Iām sure as the shop just had that āfeelā. Anyway, after my pizza was done, I went to pay but Dom refused. I tried again and he said it was on the house for Veterans Day. I forgot I even mentioned my military service as we watched the game. All I can say is Just Wow! I didnāt know what to say besides āthank youā. The Pie was Hot and Delicious! Truly food for your sole. It reminded me of the pizza style I grew up eating. Great place and great service! My family will be back every trip home in the...

The one topping pizza special is unbeatable. Tonight we tried the stuffed shells and they were very good - we'll definitely order those again. The gyros are super tasty. We enjoy their fried zucchini, be sure to ask for meat sauce - it is so good and I would buy it by the quart if I could.
Honestly everything I've tried has been delicious and they're consistent. Always friendly faces working in the shop, it is clearly family owned and has a really nice feel.
It is a bit small inside so not great for a large group. They take cash only, there is an ATM in the shopping complex though. They can take a bit to have the order ready if it is a busy night, but it is 100% worth the wait. Order, relax for a bit, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI once lived across the street from Messina's, now whenever I travel 3000 miles from my new doorstep to Pittsburgh, I stop here as much as I can. The BBQ wings are always on point, the hoagies are fantastic and so are the calzones. I love that in the near 30 years I've known about Messina's, very little has changed. The original owner is still there and his son is doing one hell of a job keeping up the high standards. Take it from someone who knows: you don't know what you have until you dont have it. I have yet to find a pizza joint somewhere else on this planet that makes me happier. Maybe it's just teenage memories, maybe it's just that Pittsburgh sensibility but whatever it is to the locals, dont take them...
