I never thought I would, but I decided to give Luna's another shot several years after my one & only visit. I've now been back twice with different results. On my first trip, it was immediately obvious things had changed in that time, starting with the seating & decor. It was bright & clean & when the Hostess smiled & greeted me I knew already it was going to be a better experience. The waitress (and other staff) was so nice & attentive. Pork in Alabama is pork in Alabama so to determine whether a BBQ place is worthy, I judge the food on two items, ribs & then cheeseburgers. First up was a hald slab of ribs & I have to say, they were rubbed right, smoked properly & downright tasty. I was encouraged enough to go back the next week & order a cheeseburger, which was serviceable but not on par with what I expected, so, I ordered a half slab to go. When I opened the box at home I knew by just looking at them it wouldn't be a repeat of the first half slab I enjoyed so much. They weren't rubbed at all & the dark caramel bark had been replaced with an unappetizing grayish color, the pleasant aroma was gone & the satisfying "tug" from the bone was, at beat, limp. There was no sauce, including what I ordered. And, despite the staff all being as helpful & friendly as they could be both times, I've never experienced two such a drasticly different & disappointing meals from the same place within days...
Read moreOk, so my wife says you have to go for the Burgers and she said they were good. But I took my daughters one day and I had never eaten here before, I got the ribs and they were not good, I got baked beans and both the ribs and the beans were dry, the beans had no juice to them, you could pretty much spoon the whole thing of beans up with one spoonful, they were all stuck together, ribs were tiny and very dry, didn't really remember their BBQ sauce so that tells me I was not impressed. My daughter's had chicken strip's and they said they were pretty good, portions seemed kind of small, but their prices seemed inexpensive. We all got a combo meal and it came with a excellent small dinner salad, but I was more impressed with it than the ribs. I have heard both good and bad from different folks, I recommend it to someone who went there and didn't like it, they said (all-steaks) in cullman Al. was way better, ( I haven't been to all steaks ).and I have only been to Lunas once, so I would probably say go and try the Burgers or whatever, to see if you like it yourself, the police seem to like it cause they always eat there. They did not seem...
Read moreUpon entering a BBQ establishment, there should be the smell of smoke. No smell and no sign of smoke here. There was a wood pile on the side of the building, but they must be using that wood for something else other than smoking meat. We had a BBQ sandwich and the BBQ baked potato with water to drink. The meat was about as dry and flavorless as I could imagine. Sauce helped...but only so much. The baked potato was not quite warm enough to melt the butter and the excess amount of shredded cheddar cheese that seemingly was piled on in an attempt to compensate for the other toppings that were to have been included, but were not. I decided to not make a big deal and I dealt with it. I would have expected more from a small road side BBQ place like this. I tried to leave the server a good cash tip since she probably couldn't help what wasn't going on in the kitchen. I put on my Hat and left there, still hungry, wishing I had spent the $25 on better BBQ at the place a few miles to the south on Hwy. 31. You...
