Been coming to the area every summer for over 30 years and this was my first time stopping by Iron Bound since friends were in town. The staff seemed annoyed that our group of 5 showed up without a reservation and made it pretty known that we were an inconvenience - with crass side comments about how we were the walk-ins. Having worked with some of the top restaurants and chefs in the country for many years, I understand how a walk-in can be a lot but it's no reason for rudeness. After seating us, they went through the specials and when we ordered almost everything my party wanted from the menu suddenly wasn't available- so it was back to the drawing board and we wish the unavailable dishes were shared in advance.

Tofu Reuben - nothing to write home about. The tofu size was small compared to the bread and the kimchi tasted off. Served with a side of potato chips it wasn't worth the price. Roasted Chicken sandwich - ordered thinking it would be a good hunk of chicken for the price. It came out a thin layer of chicken salad between bread served with potato chips. Flavor was bland and it reminded us of school lunches. Lobster Mac & Cheese - this was the dish we were most excited about but it had zero flavor and was wet/runny. It reminded us of a frozen Mac and cheese but with lobster tossed on top. For the $34ish price tag it was the biggest disappointment. Halibut - the only dish we had that actually was good! Overpriced but good. Seltzers/club sodas were 4-6oz pours and $4 each. Ridiculous.

The staff seemed cold, rude, and like we were an annoyance in their evening even though we were nothing but kind and thankful. We didn't feel welcomed upon arrival or during our entire dining experience. The staff avoided our table and we had to flag servers to even make an order -- nevermind the rude stares from them as they passed, making it even more uncomfortable. The restaurant is perfect if you're over 65 and think even salt and pepper is too much seasoning -- and if you want to spend way too much money on very lackluster food. In the end my party and I left a hefty tip and were able to have a good laugh about how terrible the entire experience was, but I wouldn't recommend it and have no intention of returning next time I'm...

We booked a two-night stay at Ironbound after finding it on a short-term rental site, and what a delightful surprise! At first, I thought it was just a rental, but a little research revealed it’s an Inn with a restaurant; though honestly, the Inn feels almost like a charming bonus to the fabulous dining experience.

With only five rooms, this intimate Inn was exactly what we needed. The room could use a bit of a designer touch and some updates, but it was super cozy, impeccably clean, and my wife slept better than she had in weeks.

The restaurant deserves accolades on its own. Leslee, the lovely energetic and hospitable owner, went out of her way to fit us in for dinner on a fully booked night, explaining she always tries to accommodate her Inn guests when possible. The food was extraordinary — our Portuguese Cataplana was better than any we’ve had in Portugal, and the Lobster Mac & Cheese was excellent.

After dinner, we relaxed in the back pavilion, listening to a local band playing nostalgic Americana. The musicians were clearly having a great time, and the thoughtfully designed backyard —with ample tables, cozy seating areas, and even a fire pit, made it a perfect spot to unwind.

Bonus points: there’s a hiking trail on the property. We only had time to explore part of it, but it apparently leads to an old ice pond — something to look forward to on our next visit.

Ironbound is the perfect combination of cozy lodging, incredible food, and relaxing atmosphere. We can’t...

Why was this place excellent? Because Leslie and her staff made it excellent. I honestly don't know where to start. This may be the best the place I have ever stayed in. Leslie made us feel like home. The rooms are absolutely breathtaking and so surprising! Just when you think the room ends, there's another turn that takes you into another beautiful room. The set up is just excellent. One of the best parts of this inn is that its only a couple room so privacy is there. Every room has its own private balcony too. Very comfortable. The beds are soo comfortable too and very very very clean!! They hygiene seriously here. The bathrooms are huge and are supplied with all essentials. The area itself is beautiful. They serve continental breakfast every morning and their AMAZING restaurant is opened wed-sat so if you go, make sure you dedicate at least one night. The food is 5 stars, the chef is awesome - he came out and introduced himself and the servers are just great. Even Leslie herself was helping out that night and I always respect when the owner is out there hustling and not just chilling. ||Leslie for sure accommodated us and she always checked in on us to make sure we were happy. We even had requested if we can do a fire pit and later that night when we came back from hiking, we found a pit all organized with wood next to it, ready for use. They truly are very hospitable and welcoming. Can't wait...

My family of 3 stopped in for the restaurant on a Tuesday evening on our way out of Bar Harbor to our Airbnb in Gouldsboro. We were hoping to escape some of the crowded tourist spots of Bar Harbor and had seen many restaurants along the way and figured we would hit up one of those. We were asked if we made reservations, which we had not, and then we were asked to step outside and they would get us a table shortly. After about 20 minutes we were seated inside. We were quickly given glasses of water by the hostess, and our waitress came by quickly and took our orders. Unfortunately, I had wanted to order the Lobster Mac N Cheese but they were out of it (it was 8pm and we were the last table seated), I ordered the Fish N Chips (haddock) and my son and husband ordered the Downeast Burger. Both dishes we delicious and plenty. I did see a table that got the last or of Lobster Mac N Cheese though and it looked amazing, bummer I didn’t get to try it. Overall we were very pleased and thankful the owner was willing and able to seat us even though we did not have reservations, which I would recommend :)
