Mimi's isn't the best coffee shop I've ever visited, but certainly not the worst either. Although I do like their coffee, I immediately noticed a very "snooty, upper crust" vibe about this place & staff wasn't exactly "overly friendly". This surprised me considering Hardwick is a farm town, not an upscale, high end New York City establishment! The 1st time we went, we brought our young daughters & kept getting "looks" from employees. Our girls were not behaving badly or anything, so we didn't feel the rude glares were acceptable or very welcoming, especially to 1st time customers who are also locals & may have become potential regulars, had we not been treated so coldly. The only reason I am giving as many stars as I am is because the lady who took our order was helpful in offering more detailed info on particular coffee flavors that we had inquired about. I was excited to try their cookie dough flavor, but apparently they had ran out. Um...could you not have taken 30 seconds of your time to cross this off or remove from your flavor list??? Some customers (especially new guests!) may have trouble deciding, so it's a bit inconvenient to look over the menu & then upon choosing be told a listed option isn't available. Also, I felt that their bakery items weren't that impressive as far as selection goes. I was hoping to get something my young daughters could enjoy & the only choices were lemon muffins (definitely not a favorite amongst most kids!) & a few other pastries that weren't exactly too exciting or unique by any means. Variety isn't their strong spot for food items. However, I did think the cheese danish I ordered was "okay". For a small business, I think they could certainly try harder, @ least attempt to be much kinder to their customers. After all, they are the ones who keep you in business, so if you hope for us to return, a little kindness can go a long way folks! I felt almost more as if I was in a library whenever my young daughters made any noise, we felt the staff continuously gawking @ our table. Talk about uncomfortable! If you're looking for a place to bring a friend or partner, I guess you can give them a shot. But for those with young children, you're better off crossing Mimi's off your list unless of course, you enjoy being rudely stared @ for the entire visit. Definitely not "family friendly" in my opinion. We went another time & got our order to go, but still was left feeling less than impressed. Just being honest about our experiences. If I owned a small business in a small town, I would definitely be much friendlier & welcoming to my customers.𤷠(Update: Tried again, really wanted to like this place but after purchasing a danish with mold, I decided to stick with my usual spots! They did however allow me to exchange this item.) I'm honestly surprised at the amount of...
Read moreMimi's Café opened just very recently, in a space I used to come to when it was a pizza joint, while on motorcycle rides in western Massachusetts. That place closed some time back, & now I'm delighted that Mimi's has opened in the same, newly and very nicely renovated space. Kinda' old New England on the outside - contemporary on the inside. It works! The menu is a bit limited, breakfast sandwiches & lunch sandwiches, but is diverse enough for most anyone to find something they'll like. I had a BLT on wheat bread and a bowl of her hardy corn chowder on the cool, rainy, damp, early August day that I was there. The bacon was thick sliced, cooked just right. The wheat bread was surprisingly not toasted, but didn't detract from my enjoyment of the sandwich. Four stars only because of the limited menu, but it's really great to have this place for a light lunch on my "Quabbin Loop", 72 mile ride around the reservoir. Perhaps the menu will expand a bit as Mimi's Café becomes better known through Google Maps & word of mouth. There were several locals who clearly have discovered this little hidden...
