The Shack Caribbean Seafood Grill (Harper Heights, TX):
⸻
I had a terrible experience at The Shack Caribbean Seafood Grill in Harper Heights. My daughter, son-in-law, and grandson stopped by to grab food before I flew home, and it was a complete disappointment.
We ordered several items — fresh juices, stuffed plantain, a whole red snapper, snow crab, fish ceviche, crab enchiladas, house salad, and beef empanada. The issues started right away: • The juice my daughter ordered didn’t taste good and had to be sent back. • The crab empanada didn’t even taste like crab, so that also went back. • The fish ceviche was extremely sour and inedible, so we sent that back as well.
When the bill came, I noticed they charged us for EVERYTHING — even the items we returned. They agreed to remove the juice and empanada but refused to remove the ceviche. When I said I’d just take it with me since I was being charged, I was told it had already been thrown away — yet I still had to pay for it! That makes no sense.
To make things worse, I ordered two chicken empanadas to go. When I went outside and checked the bag, they weren’t there. I went back inside, and they told me, “Oh, I didn’t charge you for them.”
The entire experience was unprofessional, frustrating, and disappointing. Bad food, bad service, and bad customer care. I definitely will NOT be going back and cannot recommend this...
Read moreThe food is absolutely top notch. They have a variety of choices ranging from your typical steak and lobster over to more exotic options like red snapper, mahi mahi, cassavas and plantains. If you want something you're comfortable with, this is the place to go. If you're in the mood to try something new - this is the place to go.
The food was just what brought my experience together. It really started before I even closed the front door behind me. As soon as I stepped inside, I immediately felt transitioned back to some of the seafood restaurants I've been to in Florida. With a mix of spot-on decor and the smells from the kitchen - all they were missing was white sand when you look outside the windows.
As soon as I sat down, I was greeted by Luigi - one of the owners. His wife and co-owner, Enni (sorry if I misspelled that!), was working the register and was very helpful when Luigi wasn't around. Luigi very patiently welcomed us, explained what the restaurant was all about to us, and talked us through several menu options that we weren't familiar with. He carried himself in a very friendly and polite manner to everyone I saw him talk to - staff and customers alike. His entire staff were the same way and it put the final touches on a very welcoming atmosphere.
If you have not been here, and are a seafood lover, you will love it here! This is just what our...
Read moreI'll be the first one to tell you that I have no idea what it takes to make ceviche or a seafood cocktail. I didn't feel like it takes 25 minutes to make what you see pictures when I was the only one there. However, they had just opened 30 minutes prior and were preparing for a get together for the chamber it seemed.
The food was excellent. I really liked the ceviche but wasnt a fan of the plantains but I'm sure they just weren't my flavor. I would have preferred a corn chip or tostada.
I didn't know what I was expecting with a $20 seafood cocktail but it wasn't what I got. For $20 I would have preferred more shrimp and less of the other stuff that was chewy and had no flavor. This is likely due to my lack of eating things like octopus.
The staff and family were so nice. Everyone there was very hospitable.
I enjoyed my experience. It was clean and the music was great for the atmosphere.
My two complaints were the time it took to get my food and I feel like the cocktail was overpriced for what it was and how it tasted. Its possible that type of food is usually more expensive though. I would'nt order the cocktail again but the ceviche I would come...
