As much as I hate to leave a negative review, my recent experiences at the West Hickory Sportsman have left me with no choice but to express my frustration. On two separate occasions, I made dinner reservations specifically to enjoy their 'famous fish dinners,' only to find out upon arrival that they were sold out of fish. This lack of preparation is especially baffling considering the restaurant's reputation for their fish dishes.
During both visits, numerous patrons, including myself, were left disappointed and frustrated by the unavailability of the advertised fish specials. What made matters worse was that the fish specials were still prominently displayed on the dry erase board, giving the false impression that they were still available.
Additionally, the lack of communication from the staff about the fish shortage was disappointing. Despite being seated and served drinks, we were only informed about the unavailability of fish after being prompted to order appetizers. Had we been informed earlier, we would have likely chosen to dine elsewhere.
Overall, my experiences at West Hickory Sportsman have been marked by frustration and disappointment. For a restaurant that prides itself on its fish dinners, it's unacceptable to repeatedly run out of fish, especially during peak dining hours. I hope that management takes steps to address this issue and improve their level of preparation and communication to ensure a more positive dining experience for their patrons...
Read moreNice place! Met lots of nice people that were all very kind an treated us like friends. The bartender Renee an the waitresses an cooks were knowledgeable about different places we wanted to visit an gave us some well needed info on a few of them which made our trip more enjoyable. We ate breakfast there 2 times they said they just started doing that 2 weeks ago. We were happy it was 2 blocks if that from the tiny house cabin we stayed in. We also ate dinner there on Wednesdays they have $7 pizzas an $1 of a lb./6 wings the wings were very good an big the pizza wasn't too bad. They have 2 pool tables my wife an I played on they just redid the floor in the pool table room it looks nice. They warned us they hadn't leveled them yet an they have a crazy roll but it was still fun. They also have an electronic dartboard an 5 pa skill machines. You can eat at the bar an they also have several tables an a bunch of tvs to watch sports or whatever they asked if we wanted anything special on we didn't but it was a nice gesture. It was our first time in that part of the state an we throughly loved it the residents made the trip a memorable one an one we will make sure to go back to when the weather is nicer to kayak...
Read moreUsually a great spot and within walking distance to my camp. Granted a long walk, but can be done if needed. Most always had a good experience here until one day when I took some friends to camp and we actually walked from camp down to the river and were on our way back when we thought we stop in and buy a six pack for the walk. Went in with our friendly dogs on leashes and were immediately asked to leave by the bartender, and not politely. It was the early afternoon, the place was nearly empty and all we wanted was a six pack to go...and all this after I was telling my friends about how friendly the place was. To this day I still take a beating for saying that and none of them want to give the place a second chance when we are at camp. Lost my business when they are with me to say the least, although I hope to talk them into giving it another chance someday. If I would have been able to see the bartender for more than 5 seconds before getting told to leave, maybe I'd know if she still works there or not and could convince them...
