The food was pretty good and the employees were competent but not friendly and the dining area was clean. To me it just wasn't a welcoming atmosphere just kind of sterile and quiet lol. Hospitality is second nature to most Southerners and that's where alot of us learn to be charming and flattering to our guests and patrons most don't even remember that the food could have been warmer and the tea a little sweeter because good conversation and genuine empathy concerning strangers is old fashioned I know but people are unique individuals and you can never tell who you might meet but these small encounters with others is as good for us as it is them and they might just might be the next "Mark Twain" or "Elon Musk or even Mother Teresa. We all live here together so don't be standoffish and cold be warm and charming and engage people in pleasant conversation and gracious manners and maybe our everyday routines will gain some of the magic and joy we lost being to busy to even notice because the" love of money" outweighs all things and we are convinced that wealth will make us happy again at last. We all lose or give away our happiness because it can't be bought or sold or traded, it comes from within us radiating outward like a refreshing breeze and no amount of money or anything from outside of any of us could hope to fill this void and money is devoid of any power or remedy. Money is just a tool, we might as well expect lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners to give us back our happiness that made us feel warm and alive lol trading our happiness and joy in this life for the hope and promise of wealth that could never endow warmth or life because wealth possesses neither one. Life is for the living don't draw away from people and life! Engage life don't be passive, experience is our best teacher and we only get one life to live so be a little bolder, a little more outgoing and also a little more kind, a little more patient and polite, understanding that true happiness and peace are never far from most of us. Just like we gave away our happiness ironically we have to give away peace things to get it back lol. We need to give all our baggage and insecurities to the Sea never to surface again and leave the past with all it's wounds and pain kept alive by our regrets and self recrimination of deeds undone and Ioved ones lost. When we divest ourselves of these things, happiness and contentment Can't be far away could it? lol. Truth is though that happiness never left us, we just buried it under all lifes drama and worry finally understanding that you really do have to give to recieve just as men of ancient times wrote to us long ago about the peace they passeth all...
Read moreWas passing through Harpersville last Saturday with my wife and went through the drive-through. We ordered 1 Classic Chicken Sandwich, 1 Spicy Chicken Sandwich with extra hot mayo, and 2 cups of water.
While waiting at the window, we watched a man and his wife walk out with an order and get in their car. The man came back to the building with the food bag. I commented to my wife that they must have his order wrong. When he went inside, I watched them dump the food out on the counter: 2 chicken sandwich bags, and a small plastic cup of hot mayo. My wife and I realized that was our order.
Then, they rebagged the food and brought it to the drive-through to give us! I told the young lady at the drive-through that they could not serve us food that had been across the counter (let alone to the parking lot and back). The food was taken back into the kitchen area for about 30 second, and was handed back out to us ----with no new food being picked up from the serving line.
I drove off with the bag, not wanting to make a scene. We threw it away when we got home, as we are not eating questionable food that has been handled in the parking lot. My wife called the customer service line and complained. The GM called us back and was going to review the tapes, and agreed to refund our money.
Fast-forward to this Friday. My wife stopped in Harpersville to pick up our refund. They made excuses that "everybody makes mistakes." While there, the Assistant Manager on duty watched, without correcting, a worker in the kitchen with her mask pulled under her chin leaning over the cooked food filling orders, breathing on people's food. When my wife called the District Manager, he seemed irritated and wanted to know how to make her happy. Serving dependably clean food would do the trick.
I have enjoyed Popeye's chicken for many years, and will continue to do so. But, not from that location. I will not buy food and worry about whether it is safe to eat; that does not make for an...
Read moreThis was my first visit to a Popeye's in some time. It was also my first time in Harpersville, Alabama and an unexpected visit. A big traffic jam on the Interstate ended up being a trip through the countryside and led to this Popeye's.
The staff was friendly. I walked up to the entrance and walked in. As it turned out, the dining room was actually closed but someone forgot to lock the door. We did not know that for a few minutes until someone apologized, explained the situation, and let us order and still eat inside. The problem, as is often the case now, was a lack of a complete staff.
As a result, we had a quiet dining experience in a dining room that was very neat, clean and quiet. No doubt, the people who came up and wanted to come inside were perplexed as we were sitting there eating but the door was locked so no one else could enter.
The two-piece combo meal I had was excellent. It was cooked perfectly with a little spice. My dining companion had the chicken tenders. They were also very good.
The biscuit was tasty and not overdone, the drink cup was very large and the iced tea was also good. The cajun rice was very spicy. I think I would go for the red beans and rice on another visit.
I suspect we will try another Popeye's in the near future when we have a craving for...
