Thoreau's — Restaurant in Harwich

If you are looking for a place with great food, great service, and great atmosphere. This is the place to go. I was incredibly impressed with the staff. Very professional and attentive. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful. The lighting and flooring added to the atmosphere. The reason I gave the place a lower star value was because of two reasons. The first was how hard it was to find the place. The only reason I found it was because I asked someone at a wedding next door where to find it. There was no signage indicating where exactly it was. Secondly, when I got the check there was a 20% service charge. The waitress informed us at the end about it but there was no explanation on why we were paying an additional resort fee when we are not even staying there. I looked at the website to figure it out and could find nothing. The website itself is incredibly bare bones. I thought initially the service fee was for the tip. But below it there is a gratuity fee section. The staff were incredible and I don't feel they shouldn't get a tip. So we did pay that. But I wish a service fee was not thrust on us after we had gone. After dining at Thoreau’s I am not sure how to rate the restaurant. My wife newborn and I dined here for our Mother’s Day celebration. Our Evening was off to a great start until my steak arrived well done when I ordered it medium rare. We sat waiting to be waited on for 30 minutes so I could get a new steak. We then had to ask a neighboring waitress for a new steak and where our waitress had gone. She replied that our waitress had gone on break like that somehow explained why we were no longer being served. Another 20 goes by and my new steak arrives and I again ask the bus boy who are waitresses was and why we are no longer being waited on. The new steak was cooked properly, but our evening had ended. The manager came over and comped the whole meal as we wrapped up our evening still without a waitress.

Thoreau's is the pub area of twenty-eight Atlantic at the Wequassett Resort in Cape Cod. We dined here one night, and at twenty-eight Atlantic the other night. Both experiences were fantastic. We loved the decor of Thoreau's, which is a little more laid back.
