Runza Restaurant — Restaurant in Hastings

Don't try for a fast lunch during the week here. Anytime between 11:30-1:00 Monday through Friday is swamped. Drive thru is backed up almost always during this time and you'll wait inside twice as long as the drive thru to get your food even if it's "to go." Known Runza was slow for years, that's just how they are as they make food fresh for you, but it's literally enough to ruin your fixed lunch time. Something to keep in mind here. This is the ONLY drive thru/fast food restaurant on this side of Hastings! That means for lunch everyone goes there as the other choices are a deli, several convenience stores/gas stations, or sit-down restaurants on this side of town. Good food, just expect to wait 10-15+minutes during the lunch hour. Oh and their parking lot/drive thru is engineered poorly so watch out...

This review is based on getting their Runza original sandwich and the experience I had dining in as a group with friends, coming from out of state. I think it was a good experience trying out bierock made into a signature Runza in this restaurant chain only in Nebraska. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was clean and nice. I particularly liked reading about their description of what Runza was and their restaurant history. My personal experience is that the sandwich I had was a higher end of fast food at a reasonable price. I can see myself coming back though. I ordered a southwest chicken salad, popcorn chicken, and a lemonade refresher today. The total was a bit over $17 and definitely not worth it. The salad has always came with a chicken strip cut up. This one had ten pieces of tiny popcorn chicken on it (one piece was so burned it was inedible), a few tortilla strips, a sprinkling of cheese, and the rest was salad.
