Guanatos Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Hattiesburg

Once again, my quest for delicious Mexican food is still a priority in my daily travels. As usual, I placed a “to-go” order, but amazingly, this location was a place I could have actually sat and dined in today, because it sits literally at the edge of the parking lot where we truck drivers park. Not only is it conveniently located for truck drivers, but they also offer 10% off the meal for truck drivers as well, if that’s something a fellow driver would like to take advantage of. The location at the time I visited was not too busy; which was around 6pm. The place is remarkably clean on the inside, as they obviously take great pride in the appearance of their establishment. I only saw two members of the staff that works up front, but they were very pleasant in greeting me and just as quick to take my order. If anything, I owe them an apology for not being my usual bright and cheery self, when I walked over, but I was fresh off a 10 hour drive with only 40 minutes of rest mid trip. So, if they are open next time I’m in the area, I will most certainly make up for my shortcomings on this visit.

Now, as for the food ? Presentation is always a key feature with me, when it comes to deciding what I will eat; though I have made some exceptions over the years due to hunger having more control than my eyes. Still, I think most of us can agree—“We eat with our eyes”. Television, billboard, magazine, and in-store marque ads often times show us the best a restaurant has to offer, while disappointing us with what they actually give us, after we have paid. This place sold me something I did not view…just a name description—mega burrito. Well, I didn’t open my to-go order, until I arrived back at my truck, but I was anxious the entire little walk back to see what I paid for. I carried my bag with care, because I didn’t know what the contents were like, but once I was seated and comfortable in my truck, I saw the same pride was taken to prepare the meal that was used to keep their restaurant clean. “Pride and Presentation are obviously something this place strives to put forth with what they do. If you’ve looked at my photos, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Now, as for the taste ? They clearly used fresh vegetables, because they were large and crisp, after they were grilled or sautéed. I when with the chicken as usual, and they were nice size pieces, unlike another place I’ve went to in the past that used small diced bits of chicken, perhaps as a food cost saving measure. I will definitely have to come back another day and try another dish, so I can get a wider spectrum of their menu and the taste of things. I do recommend this place for the travelers passing by and especially for the truck drivers parking for the day or night right next door. I don’t think good food could be any more convenient, considering the location…and it’s a real refreshing change from burgers and fried chicken....

I went here and had the worst experience in my entire life There was a waiter who was extremely rude and gave me the wrong order I paid my bill upfront before I received my food. I was in a rush so my interactions were to grab the order and go. She refused to return my money or even exchange my order. She kept saying You paid for this order You paid for this it’s too late you paid for it so you have to take this food. I told her this order was a mistake and she kept saying yes it is steak . Making a mockery of me. I then ask to speak with the manager That’s when she said She was the manager. Then I asked her to speak with the owner She said he was not present. Ok no problem let me take a number down for him and maybe I can talk with him later. She then said to me She doesn’t understand English and can not understand what I was asking. Later I noticed to Ladies sitting behind me They let me know it was posted on the wall. Which lead me to this review page. The food taste awful The beans were spoiled. And the service was very unpleasant and unwelcoming. I am a traveler from outside this State I do not recommend this place...

I decided to stop by for lunch today after hearing good things about this resturant. After all the hype I was given, it was a big let down. I will not be coming back after today. I give customer service 5 starts because that’s all that was 5 star worthy of this establishment. No resturant should be this cold inside especially on a cold day like today. 41 degrees inside is unacceptable even on a summer day little lone a freezing day outside like today. You shouldn’t be bundled up and shivering inside a resturant trying to eat. I would’ve thought something might be wrong with the heat if the ceiling fans in the lobby hadn’t been on full blast. It was so cold inside there that my food was ice cold before I could even finish eating it. The food was way over priced. $5.59 for a small cheese dip and $9.00 for a taco plate. I don’t know what kind of meat they used for taco meat but it surely wasn’t hamburger meat. It was so greasy that my taco shells were mushy instead of crunchy. After paying $20 for food I couldn’t eat today, I will just stick with my go to La Fuente in Purvis for now. I get the same thing there...
