We recently returned from a week-long trip to Napa and Sonoma, and we can state without reservation that our lunch and tasting at Capo Creek was an absolute highlight of the trip. Our group of four booked the VIP lunch experience with Mary Roy (the owner, winemaker, head chef, and all-around BOSS of the place). We simply cannot recommend this experience highly enough — it was transformative. If you are anywhere remotely near Healdsburg, GO!

We have had many wonderful visits, tastings, and meals at Napa and Sonoma wineries over the years, but we have never had such a personal and meaningful experience as we had with Mary. First of all, the setting — Capo Creek is an intimate place, a small family-run operation that has only been producing wines for a decade or so. The winery is beautiful, serene, and authentic. When we visited, we were the only ones there, and that was a rare and special feeling indeed.

Then there’s Mary herself — as much a true frontier badass as any we have read about in our American history books. Her story is truly remarkable, and she will share it freely if you want to hear it. We did, and it has restored our faith in the great American ideal of going for it and giving it your all. Mary is an inspiration.

And then there’s the lunch experience itself. The setting was gorgeous, from the fresh flowers to the beautiful unique place settings at a comfortable farm table in the elegant wine cellar. The food was interesting, beautiful, and (most importantly!) delicious. And the wine pairings, fabulous. We kept having to remind ourselves that Mary herself, personally, does ALL OF THIS! And we keep asking ourselves — how does she do it?!?

Brava, brava, Mary — we loved spending our beautiful spring afternoon in Dry Creek with you, and we think of you every time we crack open a delicious bottle of Capo Creek wine at home now. Best of luck with all of your endeavors, we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next, and we hope to see you again soon.

With warmest regards, Joe, Hilary,...

Wow! I recently had the best afternoon lunch and tasting at this fabulous boutique Sonoma winery. Recommended by the concierge at the Montage Healdsburg, we came to celebrate a good friends birthday by experiencing their Ultimate Food & Wine Paring. The drive to the winery is beautiful on back country roads. Upon arriving we were greeted by Nadine and Mary the two proprietors of the winery. Over the long afternoon we go the whole story of how they left their medical practice and then started winery from scratch! Super engaging stories and testament to two amazing women business owners!

But lets talk about the main event the wine AND the food! This six course meal was close to some of the best Michelin restaurants that I have dined in with each course building on the last. Every bite delicious the highlights for me were the Wonton, Poblano Soup and the Pierogi. The filet was cooked perfectly and the Whipped Tates were darn near close to Joel Robuchon Pomme Puree.

As a self proclaimed pie aficionado, the berry galette was outstanding. Perfectly selected handpicked berries and choice fruit topped a buttery and super flakey crisp crust. Ahhhmazing.

The wine paired with the food perfectly...the Rose delectable for any long sunny afternoon. My other favorite was their Estate Old Zin. Complex, full bodied and yummy. We loved the wine so much we became Cellar Brats!

Because of COVID we were unable to see their Wine Cave. Also we heard legendary tales of their pizza made in the outdoor oven. Two big reasons for us to return!

This is the perfect place for special occasions or just a wonderful afternoon/evening. I truly cannot say enough about how special this place is. Can't wait to go back for future wine events and more of Mary's...

My employers went to Capo Creek for the first time by recommendation of SingleThread Inn where they were staying. They loved the VIP chef's tasting experience with Mary at Capo Creek and shared this with me:

Our VIP tasting at Capo Creek with Mary was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality, setting the stage for an experience that was both indulgent and inspiring.

What makes Capo Creek so special isn’t just the incredible food and wine pairings—though those were absolutely phenomenal. Each bite and sip felt meticulously crafted, showcasing Mary’s deep knowledge of how flavors interact and enhance one another. Her background in science and medicine shines through in the way she thoughtfully curates pairings, balancing acidity, texture, and aromatics to create something magical.

But what truly elevates the experience is Mary’s story. In an already competitive wine industry, she carved her own path, overcoming hurdles that would have stopped most people in their tracks. From her humble beginnings to the grueling journey of medical school, she pushed through countless challenges to build a successful practice. When that was suddenly taken from her in a business deal beyond her control, she did what only a true visionary would do—she turned lemons into lemonade (or in this case, grapes into world-class wine!). She set out west, embracing a completely new adventure, and poured her heart, soul, and scientific expertise into building something special at Capo Creek.

If you’re looking for a tasting experience that is not only delicious but deeply personal and inspiring, Capo Creek is a must-visit.

We can’t...

Everything about this place is outstanding. What excellent wines and stunning food, what a lovely terrace and garden and cellar, what an amazing, everloving badass Mary is, and what a brilliant vintner and scientist she is. We left happy, arms full of bottles and olives, hearts inspired and excited to come back as soon as possible. I’ll highlight that I’m super sensitive to red wines, they tend to give me a lot of inflammation. Mary taught us that this is due to a common fruit pressing process that is too hard on the grapes and seeds, but is favored by producers because it extracts juice more quickly, despite the concentration of histamines it adds… These histamines are what cause inflammation, it’s something i’ve been dealing with through elimination diets for ages and I didn’t realize there was a way to avoid it, accepting that red wine would just be something I had to decide was worth the dehydration and morning joint pain every now and again… We had a lot of reds in our tasting (VIP is totally worth it btw) and had zero side effects either last night or this morning. My friend is asian, highly sensitive to alcohol, usually can only drink three sips of white wine before getting a big flush. She drank almost as much as I did, including the reds and didn’t have any bad reaction at all either! We’re both kind of astonished! What a treat! Oh -I didn’t mention I’m lactose intolerant. They made me a vegan version of everything, and you’d never know it wasn’t real dairy. Definitely my favorite tasting experience in all of Napa & Sonoma combined.
