The Franklin House is absolutely beautiful! The ambiance is just what you would love to have as your atmosphere over dinner, nicely lit, beautiful decor, perfectly historic. I would love to see the entire place. It was a bit chilly, as the other diners in our room mentioned to the server, who agreed and commented that the heat was on, it should be warm. The service was good. The hostess was friendly, as was the server. The food, well...the mozzarella on my French Onion soup was burned, sad but not a deal breaker. The rest was pretty good, though mostly bread, not a great deal of broth. Cool spoons though. The menu for the French Onion soup read $5.99. We were charged $6.99. I can understand prices online being different but not from the menu to the bill. Also on the bill is a surcharge for using a credit card. The server did explain that if we used cash that would be removed. If you are using a card, add about a buck onto your bill. Onto the entree- The fish and chips were more chips with hard plank. The fries were very tasty but, they should be the side on the plate, and not the fish which was bland. If you can't cut pieces of fish with a fork, it's over- fried. Knife please, but how to cut fish on a bed of fries??? The coleslaw was very good. My one companion ordered the same soup, his cheese was perfect. He also ordered the riceballs. They were stated to be "amazing." They tasted like my fish, nondescript. I had a bite and agreed, they tasted like the taste was fried right out of them. My other dinner companion ordered the chicken sandwich. It was huge! The homestyle chips that accompanied the sandwich were very nice. Apparently the chicken joined the fish, and riceballs in taste. My friend said that everything tasted "heavy." That was the perfect description. Maybe it was an off night. Maybe we just made bad choices? I might try The Franklin House again. It's a stunning restaurant and the staff is great. The food just didn't match the rest of...

This was our first visit to the Franklin House Tavern. We came specifically for the Monday night Wine & Dine special we saw on their website with a bottle of wine, two entrees and one dessert to share for $45. I think our server was new. She was not aware of the special and had to go check. She can came back several minutes later with the menu and said we were right. We ordered from this menu. My husband ordered the Swedish meatballs and I ordered the tilapia. We had to ask what salad dressings were available. She did tell us they were all made in house. The salad came out promptly and was nicely made from a spring mix, no iceberg. We expected our wine before or at least during the salad course but didn't receive it until we were more than halfway through our entrees. The server did say "sorry for the delay" but I'm not sure what the delay was since it was a screw top, not even a cork to fiddle with. Unfortunately, the Swedish meatballs were not too good. The pasta was gummy, the sauce practically non-existent and the one large meatball was unidentifiable as to ingredients. The tiliapia was okay. The side of vegetables that we both received was a nicely done mix of cauliflower, carrots and summer squash. The Canoli cake that we ordered as the dessert was not bad. We were not offered coffee (understanding that it would have been an up-charge to our bill but still not offered). In summary, we did see other things on the regular menu that we would like to come back and give the place another try. I think our server was new. The entrees on the special Wine & Dine menu have to be of a lesser quality due to the low...

Finally!! Dining that wows you.

We are an average couple who doesn't get out much so when we do we want to be wowed. That includes exceptional service, exceptional creative food, and surroundings,(and I dont mind paying for good!) This was our first visit here. We called ahead for reservations and were kindly greeted on phone) When we arrived for dinner at this absolutely gorgeous historical landmark we were greeted immediately upon entry even though we had to wait a minute. Being acknowledged is so important. We sat in a dining room and were again acknowledged by our waitress right away. Drink order was a timely fashion and mixed drinks were correct and good. We noticed several waitstaff cross helping the others, if a plate needed removed or drinks refilled, the passerby did it, that is awesome. We placed an appetizer order and it was fresh, hot, and delicious, we were asked if we needed serving plates as well! Our Waitress Brikel was amazing and always checked back at the right time. Apps, dinner salad, dinner were spaced out just right and came with appropriate silverware. Main dish was amazing and very specificaly made to this restuarant., their menu is very unique, Desert was great too. What a pleasant dining experience with exceptional service, something that is ever rarer to find these days when no one cares. We will be back, and advertise this place for our...

A tasty dining experience! My family of five decided to stop here for dinner on a whim (and a quick research of Google-reviewed restaurants with 4.3 stars and up), and we were not disappointed. We have three kids, ages 9, 7, and 6 weeks. Our older two were thrilled with their mozzarella moons and mini pierogies (we don't eat out much and let them order whatever they wat as long as they eat it). It isn't on the printed menu, but they do have a kids' menu, just ask your friendly server. Our server, Jenna, was an absolute doll and such a pleasant person! She was prompt, courteous, and super sweet to our kids. The food didn't disappoint, either - thank you, kitchen staff! I ordered their house meatloaf with side salad and mashed potatoes. The meatloaf had a delicious, sweet bacon glaze, and the mashed potatoes were REAL mashed potatoes - no fake taters here! My husband has a very restrictive diet and had no issues ordering; he had a Reuben sandwich without the bread, Cole slaw, and sautéed broccolini. All in all, we found the entire experience to be really pretty great and look forward to returning again soon!

We made reservations for valentine's day evening. We should of looked online what was on the menu because it had very limited pricey entrees. We wanted the prime rib but was informed they ran out and had to wait a half hour to get some. We were hungry and couldn't wait. We got the Chesapeake chicken. The crab that topped the chicken was good. We went because I use local flavors app but I didn't know and it's not really advertised that they don't accept it on " holidays" I don't really consider valentine's day as a holiday but whatever. We will only return when they have more on the menu and take the discount.
