I got to go in during a soft opening night. My husband is from the area but we are in no way related to the owners by friend or family.... We just called to ask if they had dine-in and because some of the owners' friends hadn't come in, they said they would be happy to have us. The food was great!! I went to this place last summer and wasn't completely sold on it because it was basically just pizzas and subs, which isn't really my thing. I really wanted some good stuff that could be local like some fish, beef, or other produce. This new menu did not disappoint! They started us out with some amazing garlic bread that we got to dip in olive oil with herbs. I got the panko crusted walleye with garlic butter caper sauce, fingerling potatoes, and green beans. My husband got the pepper encrusted steak tenderloin (real name is French I can't pronounce) with cheddar potatoes and green beans. Everything was cooked well and seasoned to perfection. I don't know how they did it but my fish stayed hot to the last bite. I could eat those potatoes every day! The green beans were still slightly crunchy and fresh tasting just the way I like them. Lots of other stuff on the menu looks good too so I'll have to come back (beer based ribs, you're next!!). The drinks were tasty and fast. I got a margarita (which was yum!!), and then said bartender's choice something fruity.... No idea what it was but it looked like the water of torch lake and was also very tasty. They don't really have a drink menu, but they have a full bar. I'm not very well versed in mixed drinks, so if I were to critique one thing it would be that I'd love to see a mixed drink menu to help me decide.

Everything about this place was fantastic from the food, to the staff, to the atmosphere. My fiance and I sat outside and we were little nervous when we saw a guy with a guitar set up right by our table because we were expecting to hear mediocre cover songs being blasted out of the speakers. Instead, we were happily surprised to hear a beautiful acoustic performance. Then our food came out and we agreed it was one of the best meals we've had in quite some time. My fiance said the lasagna I ordered tasted just like the one his Italian grandma used to make (which means a lot because she set his standards very high!). I don't remember the name of my dessert, but it was basically the best snickerdoodle I've ever had in my life topped with fresh cream and berries (picture included because it was presented too well not to take one). I've never had anything like it before. The chefs here really know what they're doing. I wish the owners lots of success!

The other reviews about this restaurant not taking Covid seriously are accurate. There is a sign at the door that essentially gives patrons permission to not wear masks, and the staff making the food (behind plexiglass) aren't wearing masks so who knows what contagion they are breathing and coughing onto the food we ate, as well as each other. The owners are disgusting and irresponsible to the community and their employees and I am terrified that I ate this food, I wish I hadn't. There will be an outbreak traced to this business, mark my words. Not to mention the takeout menu on the website is out of date, the person who took the order on the phone was clearly flustered and stressed and then they charged us extra for pickles that we asked for on a sandwich but didn't put the pickles on the sandwich. Would've given 0 stars if possible.

My friend owns a home at the far northern end of Torch Lake, and i visit frequently, so the fact that we drive the nearly 30 minutes south to this restaurant should say something very positive about it. Well.....that's based on the sensational meals and service we once received there in the past, in 2017, 2018 and 2019. But since the pandemic, this place has been a HUGE disappointment. I hate to have to write this but in looking through the many other recent reviews my thoughts are actually shared by other patrons. This restaurant used to have an exceptional menu with 2 full pages of entrees. That has been reduced to an offering of basic appetizers, pre-packaged salads, sandwiches, pizza, and 2 pasta dishes - the oven baked lasagna and an offering of spaghetti, fettuccine, or cavatappi with sauce choice, also oven baked. That's it. My party sat down last night at the 4 seat outer bar area, a prime spot, at 7:30pm and waited nearly 90 minutes for a lasagna, a baked cavatappi marinara, a sandwich, and a pizza, NO BREAD was served with the pasta entrees either. Just the tins of baked pasta. That's correct, i said served in disposable tin trays with plastic cutlery. We had drinks for an hour and a half to pass the time, had the bartender who was visably embarrassed, check 3 TIMES with the kitchen for our food, and nearly asked her to tab us out early because we could not continue to drink without eating something. If there was a manager there it wasn't obvious because no one stopped by or showed any concern; forget about getting an apology. As many other people have pointed out in their recent reviews, the product they serve is largely brought out in cardboard trays with plastic utensils. As I've also indicated, even the baked items we ordered arrived in disposable baking trays, cheese and pasta sticking to the tray. And eating lasagna with a plastic fork and knife is a complete joke. For our 4 entrees and assorted drinks our bill came to $125, before tip, so the prices certainly haven't been adjusted to reflect the NOW average food quality and McDonald's style serving arrangement. I should also mention that what used to be well prepared salads with great ingredients served in a bowl, are now served in pre-made, prepackaged plastic containers. Let me reiterate that this used to be a FIRST CLASS restaurant with a great menu offering and excellent nightly specials. NONE of this is what this restaurant is today. It's a total shame. I understand that the pandemic has disrupted the normal order of things and created staffing challenges for many businesses, but this business has lost ALL semblance of their once fine offering. When our food finally arrived we ate what we could in 15 minutes, took most of it with us and left having wasted 2 and a half hours of our time. When you're failing miserably in your service offering you need to warn people. When we sat down we weren't given any warning or indication that food would take 90 minutes to prepare. When our check arrived we were offered NO compensation for our experience EITHER. We weren't even comped as much as a round of drinks. My friends and i have come to this spot for the last 5 years expecting and once receiving a great meal and service, well worth the price. But this is NOT the case NOW. If you go here expect to be very...

Unexpected gem! After numerous times driving by this restaurant, located in small town Alden, we finally stopped in for dinner on a beautiful fall evening. We were pleasantly surprised by the modern feel yet cozy vibe. There was a bar tucked into a corner with plenty of seating and a fireplace. We didn’t get over to the pizzeria side but look forward to it in the near future. We arrived @4:30pm and were immediately seated. Even if we had to wait for a table, it would’ve been well worth it! We moved back to northern MI from Chicagoland and this restaurant ranks right up there with some of Chicago’s finest. Our table of four ordered two of the day’s specials—the butternut squash soup and the shrimp scampi, and both exceeded our expectations. The soup was a rich golden color and perfectly spiced so that the natural sweetness of the squash was followed by a slight peppery taste—delightful! The garlic shrimp scampi was served with the shrimp and pasta cooked just right with an incredible buttery smoothness—perfect! We also enjoyed the blackened panko Walleye with fingerling potatoes, panko encrusted Cod and grilled White fish with wild rice. All were excellently prepared, easily flaking onto our forks and each still retaining its unique flavor and texture. The Al-dente vegetable sides had beautiful color and served neat to complement the great flavors of the main dishes. The restaurant’s beverage list offers a wide variety of drinks and wines to pair with each dish. The desert menu offered two specials and two flavors of ice-cream. We were all stuffed by then as our dinner portions were huge but decided to indulge and ordered both specials to share. Wow! The deconstructed carrot cake served with the chef’s homemade cream cheese on the side and on an apple flavored “rue” was to die for! The double chocolate mousse cleverly served in a quirky cup was wicked smooth and light—a chocolate lover’s dream. We really enjoyed the desserts not being too sweet. Our friends know the co-owner/Chef Cliff and we were honored that he visited our table. We recognized him from a previous high-end restaurant in our beautiful village of Elk Rapids. His culinary skills,, attention to details and pride in ownership are evident in each dish. We are absolutely thrilled to add this bistro to our “go-to” list of restaurants with high caliber of great service and A+ food. Bravo Chef Cliff and wait staff! ...

This was a lovely surprise in an unexpected location. The owner/chef obviously takes pride in their dishes going as far as making their own cream cheese for their cheesecake. The smoked salmon dip with everything bagel crackers was too good. We had to force ourselves to stop eating it or we would not be able to finish our dinner. My wife enjoyed the blackened whitefish with Cajun rice and veggies, all well-seasoned and cooked well. The portion was generous enough to take hone what remained after the meal. My pork ribs, a dish I rarely order because so many times they are disappointing, were tender and meaty. They were covered in the chef's own BBQ sauce that was tangy and delicious if just a tad too sweet. I ate them all, so it's not like the sauce turned me off! The deconstructed carrot cake came with a dollop of cream cheese frosting and spiced apple "sauce" which was more of a concentrate than the watery idea you think of when you hear "apple sauce." Let me tell you, it was fantastic! The cake was perfect, just carrot cake, no raisins or nuts and well balanced with a nice spice hit. The apple sauce added the touch of acid you want to complement the cream cheese frosting, which is so much better when you can control the amount you decide to put on your fork! The service was very friendly and prompt. Our waiter knew each dish and answered all of our questions with ease. This was one of the highlights of our visit to the area, and we have already decided to return for another meal before we leave. This is one of the highest compliments I can give as I like to try different local restaurants when I travel and only return to those places I think...
