Was driving across the country, and just happened to end up staying the night at a motel in Vega. Was tired and needed a place to eat. Only two places in town, but luckily this restaurant was still open when I got there. A simple family run gas station + Indian buffet combo. Most of the dishes were vegetarian with maybe a chicken curry. But you know a place is the real deal when they have their own house made achar pickle relishes on each table. The food here was some of the best Indian I've had in a while (I'm from the UK and my wife is Indian- so I feel I know pretty well how it should taste) I even texted a photo of my plate to my mother-in-law to show her my unexpected find. So, if you're out in the middle of nowhere in the plains of North Texas, don't hesitate to stop by the Vega Truck stop for a hit of much...

We had been driving for hours from Dallas past Amarillo and desperately wanted to eat something other than fast food. It was Sunday and most every restaurant was closed. We pulled into a Pilot truckstop parking lot and just couldn't get out. We wanted something real. Across the street, we saw the VEGA TRAVEL CENTER, a very unassuming destination within 200 feet of I-40. Craig said- the sign says Punjabi Kitchen. We smiled and knew we had arrived. We walked into a dark but well equipped Indian convenience store with maybe a dozen tables off to the right. The menu was more diverse than we expected, and our orders were both large and satisfying. Flavorful Indian in a most unlikely location. But don't take our word for it. Treat yourself- you won't be...

Very good Indian food. Look...i'm a country boy from Tennessee and I though it was great. The very few bad reviews are obviously from people with no taste or that just don't like Indian food. They are also Under New Management as of a few months ago so everything has been improved. Everything was very good. The service was excellent and the people are very friendly. I highly recommend the curry chicken and the sweet rice. The restrooms are clean and there is plenty of parking for big trucks. They also have a good selection of Indian snacks and of course all your usual convenience store snacks and drinks. And the fuel price is much lower than pilot or the other truck stop on the Westbound side. Also if you fuel 100 gallons then you get...

A must-visit on any road trip! This Punjabi Dhaba is perfectly located and serves delicious, authentic Dhaba-style cuisine with a wide variety of specialties. We tried the fish pakora and chicken pakora paired with chai, and everything was packed with flavor and reasonably priced. It’s like getting a taste of Amritsar right here in Texas! The staff is friendly, and the sight of Punjabi truck drivers enjoying their "Ghar Da Khana" adds to the experience. Highly recommended!

We opted for vegetarian snacks based off the widely varying reviews, and we will be back!! Our two samosas with tamarind chutney were hot and delicious. As was our plain paratha with dahi, chopped onions, lime and mango pickle. The chai was authentic and available in large quantities. Our affordable menu items were ready within seven minutes, during which we used the facilities and meandered the fascinating cultural shop inventory.

At the intersection of Interstate 40 & Texas 385 lies a beautiful cultural hybrid to behold, with delicious Punjabi cuisine, authentic masala chai and a range of yogurt lassis. Inside you'll find typical truck stop items where truckers refuel amidst a range of other cross-cultural food and groceries. I'm grateful the community has this safe place for all who seek an alternative to the toxic American masculinity that it replaces.
