The front of the building isn't parallel to the road, so it can be easy to drive by. The building does not have a handicap entrance. There is a small porch with about 4 steps on each end. Entering the building is like stepping into the past of Mississippi. Dark stained hardwood floors, distressed plaster walls decorated with whimsical pictures, photos of blues and country singers and even a photo of Sammy Haggar posing with the server we had who's name is Karen. The place is small but welcoming and has a bar with drink specials. The bar had an interesting setup. Again there was an array of interesting pictures, musical instruments and antique furnishings. Casual dining atmosphere that one might expect to see on the television show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".
Karen was a gem and she made you feel like you were family coming to visit her. She was so nice and personable and gave us recommendations. She also offered suggestions and described the food perfectly. Really nice lady! All of the staff was welcoming including the cook that prepared our food perfectly. We arrived about 25 minutes before they closed and we were welcomed like they had all the time in the world. And it was on July 4th. We apologized for our late arrival and we were assured that it was not a problem. We were their last customers of the day and were made to feel like we were their first. The food was outstanding. Appetizers were generous and could easily be shared among 2-3 people. There were many side selections to choose from. Their menu is strictly southern cooking from BBQ about any way you want it to collard greens, fried green tomatoes and fried dill pickles. They have a dipping sauce of wine cheese served with the fried dill pickles that we could have drank with a straw it was so good. If you like good southern food, casual dining and friendly people, this is the place to visit in Tunica just a few minutes away from...
Read moreFood was decent, I’d give it a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars if I could...I had the catfish, shrimp and rib plate with 2 sides and hush puppies and to me it was just alright, ribs were good but a tad overcooked/oversmoked ( not sure correct term I’d use)...also ordered the fried green tomato, fried dill pickle and fried jalapeños appetizer, also pretty good... I think what makes it unique is the Wine & Cheese sauce, pairs great with fried food....while I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat food here again, glad I went because now I can say I ate at the famous Hollywood Cafe made popular in “ Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn... neat memorabilia and stuff on the walls plus Muriel’s piano is there which is also cool... place does make sweet tea right though 👌
Here are only 2 negatives I just remembered... the potato salad was awful... it was this cheap tasting almost reminded me of store bought bacon ranch potato salad... just didn’t taste right... they need to do something about that recipe and make fresh southern style potato salad, you know with egg, pickle relish, mayo, maybe some mustard, paprika... and also I felt like my dining experience was too damn rushed and I would’ve loved to at least have had dessert but I believe and it was even mentioned that our waitress was about to go home for the day so it felt like “ hurry up, hurry up, shoo shoo so I can go home” and she hastily brought out the check and started cleaning the table before we were really done... look I get after a long day, your shift is ending and you want to go home but...
Read moreLet me say the first time we stopped in the wait was a bit longg. We ordered some drinks while waiting, the sweet tea is really good. I'm glad my boyfriend enjoyed his meal which made up for the wait, literally. He ordered the Hamburger Steak-N- Gravy, green beans and loaded baked potato. I had the large Catfish platter, fried okra and green beans. Everything was really good and cooked well. We thank Care Bear for the first night. The second time we went back, ordered the same thing, except this time I had ordered the baked potato with a side of gravy and was not disappointed 😋 Thank you Kristen for serving us, she also apologized for the wait from the previous visit which we found polite 💛 and ohhh!! The margaritas were so pretty and tasty haha, my boyfriend even enjoyed taking a few sips🎉 we sat down in the restaurant this time after the lunch rush and left before the dinner rush. The music was nice and we really enjoyed our meal here. We put our pin on the map by the bathroom. Thank you for serving us and we look forward to coming back next time we're in town. Old fashioned hospitality with old fashioned good cooking!
