By definition this place is loved by many!
However my experience yesterday was less than lovely. I am of Mexican descent. I decided to take my mother into the store as in this area these grocery stores are usually a find!
Upon arrival we shopped with no problem until we decided to try to order food. The women taking our order couldn't talk to us, I know some Mexican language but I am rusty i can shamefully say. So I wasn't expecting that culture shock of not being able to communicate with not just one of the ladies but both. (That I can take the blame for in some way) however it is hicksville Ohio I dont imagine all the locals being able to communicate with them as my own mother who isn't Mexican couldn't at all.
After 10 to 15 minutes of trying to order simple items 3 rice, 3 beans, and 3 tacos (to go) we made some what progress writing things down and making the puzzle fit.
The food was less than desirable, the beef tacos were bland and the meat seemed like it was from yesterday's batch reheated for the second time. The rice unfortunately smelled irregular and had a most unpleasant taste not even I could fix at home with a little doctoring up. And the beans smelled of a plastic product and were as bland as the other food it came with. I know the women did the best they could to translate and I'm sure can cook food as the other reviews have stated but we all have our days. Unfortunately I came on a day that was less satisfying.
My total upon leaving was well over $30 or so as we did find shells and some lovely drinks and spices that we can't find elsewhere. So to the grocery side I would rate that 4 stars!! The restaurant and the ability to serve people is a 1 star experience for me!
In a time of racism, I know this will come out that way to some people but I am honest with all my reviews and I am again of Mexican descent and will continue to be true to my reviews and speak the truth. We will be back for more treats from the grocery...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was our first time eating at Lupita's, and unfortunately probably our last. 1. They charged us $3.50 for chips and salsa. With any other Mexican restaurant we've been to, chips and salsa are free. If you are going to charge, you need to tell the customer that b/c they likely expect it to be free. 2. They were out of hamburger and green sauce. Why wouldn't they just go to the local store and get some hamburger?? 3. The large queso was $9.50 and though it was tasty, it wasn't that large... we didn't get our money's worth. 4. We had the daily special for $15 and you didn't get that much for the money compared to other entries. 5. Overall, pretty...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreme and my mom stop here everytime we drive through hicksville. we are originally from fort wayne, but lupitas is by far my favorite mexican restaurant. our first impression was the friendly atmosphere welcomed by the staff and the decorations. the homemade tortilla chips are the best iāve ever had. the wait isnāt too long and the food was amazing. once we ate here there were children sitting nearby doing homework. i absolutely love the family vibe here and i wish we had this in fort wayne. cherish this one! they deserve the best business. they have cute stuff in their store and even had the milagro tortillas that were sold...
